I don't think Isis gave themselves enough credit for this album. I know they dislike it but they created some of their most impressively cinematic vibes here it's so powerful. Especially Wrists Of Kings.

@deezer666

I have the same feeling, man. Oceanic and Panopticon are two of my favorite post-metal albums of all time. Always when I listen to this album and Wavering Radiant, I end up feeling underwhelmed. I know I should like these two albums way better than I actually do, but for some reason I just don't.

phillistine detected.

nah I get you this is more ethereal and less immediately gratifying than the previous 2 and the production doesn't really help, although I still adore this and WR

I can't really find an explanation why, but it's probably just because I compare them too much to Oceanic and Panopticon

Well those 2 - especially oceanic - feel more cohesive to me. Every note was meticulously arranged and executed, whereas this has moments that feel almost like an impromptu jam thats honestly the way It feels to me, although its not quite a criticism

Oceanic, TSIB, rosettas first - best post metal ever. Everything else is miles behind those.

TSIB/Oceanic and MassIV are probably my 3 (could add 80% of Neurosis too but I dont like calling them post metal) but yeah I agree thal,The movement within everything after panopticon just dont do anything for me. Never really kicks in. The build ups never seem as powerful when the reach where theyre going. I saw them Play Dulcinea live before this came out and thought it was going to rule and was massively dissapointed and it went on from there. Me and my friends are split about it. We were all isis fans when celestial came out and half of us love the latter stuff and half dont. Its not like saying its not shit, I get why people love it I just dont feel it personally.

Oceanic, Panopticon, Fluxion, Precambrian, Inle, Lapsus, and Prehistoricisms are my post-metal 5's. Not exactly the consensus list.
