"Look upon the Light", especially starting with that riff around 16:50 on through the end, is so gorgeous. It just takes me places. And I like how that riff is revisited at the close of the album.

Yeah it's so good because the songs are so long, but they're so varied throughout.

It's true! And each song progresses so well that you're really able to be drawn in by the music.

good so far, and doom/depressive inspired stuff isn't even usually my cup of tea

Edit: sick jamz noctus, this sounds like a release put out by a seasoned, well rounded band. not the type of bm i personally go for, but i imagine for those folks who it is, this is stellar stuff

thank you! the next album will be quite different in terms of what vein of black metal it belongs to so you might like it more!

sounds good! :]

i did have a question - what was the recording process for the vox on this? it sounds like you switched delivery style / production style a couple of times

it was a microphone built into a webcam that i just screamed into (to the disarray of my neighbors). i was a few inches away from homeless and had no money to spare on recording equipment.

the delivery changed several times throughout the recording. on track 3 i had a sore throat from a cold, on track 2 i hadn't drank or eaten anything in a day. these factors did affect how it sounded, heh.

ahhh that would make a lot of sense. and honestly if that was your setup, they turned out far better than you could have hoped for. mostly what i heard were variances in clarity and whether or not they sounded like actual words or just incoherent screaming haha

that and a broken guitar was all i had. i'm hoping that the next album will sound a LOT better.

there isn't a single vocal performance that is just incoherent screaming on here, though. ;]

Honestly though the production is perfect for what you were going for imo

"it was a microphone built into a webcam that i just screamed into"

"that and a broken guitar was all i had"

This is part of what I love about black metal, that sense that it doesn't matter just how badly equipped you are, if you're passionate and put proper effort into working with what you have you can still make something amazing. I mean it's true for all styles but that sort of mentality really seems to shine in the BM scene (also in punk)

totally agree simon, someone with barely any resources can record something totally dope like this

doesn't exist anywhere else

there will be upgrades to my setup now that i'm in a better position but i doubt i'll stray too far from the lo-fi kind of ideals of this album

but then, i really miss the days when lo-fi actually had meaning as opposed to simply being a stylistic trend. i recorded this lo-fi entirely out of necessity and i still tried to make it sound as good as i possibly could.

for the next one you have to go all Burzum and buy a microphone, unloosen some of the screws and throw it at the wall. And then you have to put it ten feet away from yourself when recording.
