I mean that I can understand why someone would find it pretentious or silly but as I see it that's kind of the point of the album.

It's the ballsiest record of the year, he's fantastic live and modern music needs more singer/songwriter artists. In regards to pretentiousness, I think it was Francis Ford Coppola who said it is impossible to make something ambitious without pretension, FJM speaks his mind and I find his brutally honest and sarcastic wit lyrics charming and refreshing compared to all of the veiled metaphors and insight needed for other artists.
