I sort of meant the emotional integrity part in Chappie from Wall-E

Ex Machina was amazing and one of the MOTY so far

I can't wait for Mad Max, looks insane

Well so far it's the highest rated movie of the year according to Rotten Tomatoes. It's at 99% which really has me intrigued. And I never really watched the originals.

"I sort of meant the emotional integrity part in Chappie from Wall-E"

Yeah I get ya, I just mean emotional integrity in a real world sense, not an animated disney/pixar flick.

Don't get me wrong. Pixar movies are extremely moving in their own sense, haha.

I was stunned by that. Metacritic also has it at a very rare 90%, so it must just be absolutely brilliant. Considering George Miller also made The Road Warrior, one of the best action movies ever, I can believe it though.

I was planning on seeing Ex Machina, but if I don't get the chance then it's Mad Max for me.

I just realized that George Miller is directing the new Mad Max as well haha, now I'm even more curious how it'll turn out since I've seen the originals, which had some amazing action sequences for their time.

Like I said, 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. That might convince you.

And RT doesn't usually go for action movies like this, since it's an aggregator and a lot of publications don't bother to sit back and enjoy. Apparently it's got some serious depth.

Apparently Pitch Perfect 2 is pretty good as well. I enjoyed the first one quite a bit.

"you have the fucking stupid floor, go on"

Keep in mind I haven't seen it since the release date, plus I was stoned out of my mind, but here goes.

The film was an overtly indulgent, amateurish, overlong, melodramatic mess of a film lacking any sense of subtlety whatsoever. Just like Inception, an attempt to appeal to "average" and "intellectual" moviegoers simultaneously by formulating an original concept and handling it obnoxiously, though unlike Inception, it didn't work, and caused the film to completely fail from an executive standpoint.

Everything was so fucking in your face that it was distracting. Nolan was practically tugging on your shirt begging you to give a shit about these characters, yet failing to realize that this is nigh-impossible to do when not one of them feels realistic. It was his first attempt at something truly emotional, and dear God, it showed.

There was no subtext, nothing to truly read into, viewers were practically slapped with the film's central idea in that pathetic excuse of a monologue (amongst other numerous instances), with Nolan trying to dumb down themes so people understood them (incredibly haphazardly) whilst simultaneously trying far too hard to make certain aspects of the film difficult to understand (also haphazardly). Blatant overcomplication doesn't make a film artistic (or necessarily ambitious), and oversimplification doesn't necessarily make it accessible. It almost has this tone of "look how smart I am for shitting this out, but here, let me dumb it down for you so you get it". The grand statement he's trying to make doesn't seem grand at all, in fact, it seemed too simple for the film itself, which if it was an attempt at juxtaposing the film's stylistic tendencies and its central point, I get it, but it doesn't save the film and I don't believe Nolan is that nuanced of a writer.

Matt Damon's inclusion in the movie was half-assed and hilariously done. None of the dialogue felt realistic, I was constantly taken out of the film at almost every turn, several of the main performers didn't really feel into their characters at all, the pacing was off almost from start-to-finish, it seems like all the aspects necessary to make a great film were forsaken because apparently Nolan is under the impression that scale equals greatness.

Again, instead of being a bitch and saying "y'all are stupid for liking this movie", I'll remind everybody that these were my opinions upon viewing.

not sure how they felt realistic, plot did not seem overly complicated to me nor complicated to the point of pretension

to be honest the only people i have encountered who didn't like the film simply didn't understand it or had a hard time understanding it to the point of it being an unenjoyable experience

the old cliche "you are afraid of what you don't understand"

learn to critique things without sounding like a 14 year old emotional pubesant potty mouth

how was damon's character half-assed? do you not understand the backstory?

see, this is what i mean

do you want half-hour long cut scene to the character growing up in pretty mid-western USA with a alcoholic father or some bullshit? would that make it more "artistic" for you?
