lol agreed that slipknot used to be the most hardcore band ever.
4/10. Seems fair. I'd give it that or maybe even less

I was waiting for his review. Yeah I guessed a 4/10.

I agree with him when he says that he used to think Slipknot was really hardcore and aggressive until he heard heavier genres such as black and death metal. I'm exactly the same in that sense. Slipknot just doesn't sound as heavy when you're listening to them after you've just listened to an Emperor album.

Their choruses just sound silly to me. I disagree about slipknot being emotional though. When they balance out dark atmosphere with emotion, it turns out well

ChoccyPhilly's pic, tho. Zero Punctuation is the best.

It's like sticking your dick into a pudding and trying to convince someone to eat it. Sure it might be a good pudding but no one's going to eat it because you stuck your dick in it!

All Hope Is Gone just gets better and better compared to this.

Relatively, yeah but that doesn't make AHIG any better of an album than it was before

Nah, AHIG still has no clear direction.

It definitely has more direction than this and is better written.

I can say, having listened to AHIG a few days ago, that it is still a dull as hell album. Few good tracks, but lacks any real direction.
This on the other hand as better feel for direction, but feels "fake".

i'd say a big reason i got into slipknot years back was because it was the heaviest and edgiest thing i knew
only reason i checked their later works after that phase was purely for nostalgia, and mainly the reason why AHIG and .5 are so underwhelming

There is no nostalgia with this band anymore

If they didn't shove their guitars to the back just rumbling away they'd probably seem heavier. AHIG was the best in getting them to the fore though for the most part had the tamest songs so wasn't always evident. But Gematria and This Cold Black are probably some of their best songs because of it.

All Hope Is Gone had absolutely no direction. The band even said that, themselves. They hated working on the album because it felt like every member was just putting whatever into a song and having the producer sort it out into tracks; they felt disconnected. You can hear that, too.
.5 is an improvement, but I feel like it wasn't necessarily an album for the fans and more like a homage to Paul Gray entirely. For what it is, it's great, but it's not like S/T or Iowa or even Vol. 3. Hopefully they get back on their feet with the next release, because I can hear the potential in this album. They could do with better production as well; the shoved-in-the-back guitars are kind of irritating because Jim and Mick can write some solid riffs.

They make too much money to stop doing it.
There will be more albums. It's not like it takes a lot of effort putting out an album every 6 years or whatever.
