DrukQs is my favorite of his. I don't think it's too long, really.

"the fact that you're constantly jumping out of tracks like Meltphace6 and into stuff like Kesson Dalef, or Mt. St Michel into Avril 14th" agree, but somehow this stop/start sequencing of songs works really well for me. like there'll be a 5 minute track with out of this world drums, very full on and up-tempo, and then a 2 minute piano driven song. really well paced. in that sense, similar to BoC's Geogaddi, how they'll follow up a 5-6 minute song with a shorter track. and both pull it off I think.
i was super impressed on the first listen but glad I heard the 90s LPs and a few of the EPs first, cos if I'd jumped from SAW 85-92 straight to Drukqs it would've been wtf. it feels like a combination/culmination of all the 90s stuff, plus some cool new ideas.
and now i kinda get why some fans are a bit disappointed by this album compared to Drukqs cos of the relative simplicity of it, but really, how much further can you push that style?

The whole idea of AFX was to push boundaries, which this did not. The man has it in him, so hopefully we'll see more of it in the future

You mean the Aphex Twin moniker I assume, not AFX. Don’t get that sentiment at all. For one thing it’s obvious that he treads new territory with Syro. Maybe he didn’t knock down any walls and expand his palette of sound as we’ve seen with other releases, but he certainly ripped up the floorboards and added some serious depth into the production. The amount of layering and the varied equipment he used in this album coupled with an incredible level of attention to detail is definitely there to be heard, and typically gets better upon re-listening. Plus the synths on this album sound pretty fucking immense to say the least.
also,
“Death Grips >
If that counts.”
It doesn’t.
“the new Arca will be miles better”
Pretty revealing post, bro. Turn the conformation bias down a notch. Fuck...
“This is so sonically boring”
Why are you even in this thread then?

Can I not discuss this even if I dislike it? Or would you prefer threads to only include people who sing its praises?

You keep bringing that up. That's cool, I'm not really a fan either, although from what little I've heard of him he didn't seem nearly as bad as what you described.
Tycho Brahe was a 16th century Danish Astronomer.

it's one of those cases like nails or touche amore where they're not actually horrible but their entire following and reputation and general persona coupled with their mediocrity makes me really really hate them
like tycho is just
its like if boards of canada tried to cover skrillex and then everyone in the world latched onto it and thought it was the second coming of music
