its on or those songs where the chorus and verses are in different keys, and it's one of them that sounds really sloppily done. the edges vox part is cool tho, just because i love his voice

New songs are solid, nothing remarkable but enjoyable enough. Not a good sign that the song titles of the new album remind me of a 2010's Coldplay album. It'll probably be 3/3.5 out of 5 like this one I'm predicting.

At this point, I consider No Line on the Horizon to be their best since Achtung Baby. Even tho the momentum halts in the middle few songs, I really appreciate the experimentation they went for, which is probably the last time that'll happen for a while, if ever.

not checking the new songs 'til the album drops next month

kinda worried it's 13 tracks long though, I just don't think they have that much space of worthy ideas in them anymore

I much prefer Songs of Innocence to Atomic Bomb, No Line, or Songs of Experience. If it wasn't for the iPhone debacle I think this album would be remembered in a much better light. The intentions were good, but the backlash totally ruined any hope for a fair shake based on the music. Every Breaking Wave, California, Iris, Cedarwood Road, and The Troubles are all above average U2 songs. Even the songs that don't quite stick the landing are also of a higher quality than the filler on the other albums mentioned above. My main gripe is that most of the songs feel over-produced. I think they would sound better with a less slick sound.

The three worst songs are The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), which sounds like two different songs cut together poorly (the song starts great, but the chorus arrives like a disjointed thud). Volcano, which is the album's latest in a long line of dumb post-2000 up-tempo songs pandering for radio play (Elevation, Vertigo, Get On Your Boots). And Sleep Like a Baby which just goes nowhere and doesn't sound very interesting along the way.

Even with some clunkers, overall the songs here are of a better and more consistent quality than any of their other post-ATYCLB albums, so I find myself reaching for this album most of the time if I want to listen to latter day U2. Also, special mention to the two SOI era non-album tracks Invisible and The Crystal Ballroom, which are quite excellent and are better than many of the songs on the actual album.

I like the first four songs, Volcano, Raised by Wolves, Cedarwood Road, You Can Reach Me Now, and Troubles. Both bonus tracks too.

raised by wolves + cedarwood road is one of my favorite one two punches of theirs. both those are incredible. ditto the closing duo

they really shot themselves in the foot kicking this album off with a song as clunky as joey ramone tho lol
