i sometimes wish i wasnt as autistic and socially resmarted man i would almost be decent at getting my point across
In all fairness he couldn't be any more obvious at making his point. It's borderline ludicrous at times, but he makes complete sense

holy fucking shit this thread is retarded
its really gotten to the point that people are using logic formulas to defend their fallacies....
even though clearly literally no one in here knows how logic formulas work
this is actually a new low of stupidity
|
| |
this should get a gold star for most pretentious thread in all existence
|
| |
i think you guys forgot to convert it to syllogism lol

But seriously Thales your entire premise for why VW isn't a genre is false. Simply based on the fact that creating a genre only requires one thing. People. So however, utterly un unique or terribly similar it is to another genre, as long as there are people out there making music under the notion of it being vaporwave, its a wave/genre.
Fuck definitions , why need them? Just read the doctrine's of a genre or a phiolosphical standpoint of one the main artists, thats youre definition.

Personally I find the idea of a vaporwave to be a pretentious joke - you can throw as many archaic technological references and signposts to windows 95 and Eco the fuckin' dolphin all you want, but what is at the core of the design? A philosophical underpinning that relates to a society's (over)use of technology? Hello idm. I have nothing against anyone who enjoys this stuff, but to assume that it's going to be looked back on ten years from now as anything other than "just another thing" is assuming just a little too much. You've got a theory that could be tacked onto just about any other style of electronic music, and the music itself is just an amalgamation of styles found in various other genres

so a genre must have its own, unique theoretical core driving it for it to be legitimate?

deviant. thats a pretty perfect analysis. agreed.

I haven't listened to this because I just assumed it was some downer-farrah-abraham-level-bullshit (not that I don't love this idea / Downer's reviews of such, but i have not interest in hearing any of it if it's not sonically worthwhile) that was more about the critical analysis of the music more than an actually decent piece of music
but I'm intrigued
I like vaporwave-y stuff in general
|
| |
I perfectly agree with deviant on this one too

"deviant. thats a pretty perfect analysis. agreed."
"I perfectly agree with deviant on this one too."
He said the exact same thing that I did but with far less clarity.

this is a genre that I find superficial thematically but I don't care anyway because stuff like Saint Pepsi exists
