Moreira, is the second r in your name pronounced like a d?
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
Haha, not even mate. Both the r's on my name read equally. Yeah it's a very difficult name to
pronounce when you're an English speaker. Hence why i've been called from "Morieraaasdasdasdasdasd" to
"Mordora" around here. Yeah i laughed my ass off with that last one i did, haha

Oh I can pronounce rolled Rs, it's just when I hear
words like "Brasileiro" spoken (by native speakers)
the second r sounds like a d. Or is that just Brazilian
pronunciation

Exactly. My name pronounced by a Brazilian person yeah, we can say it seems like there's a "d" in there. Moh-rey-rah, haha

I can see how you could make a d sound by making the rolling motion harsher.
It threw me off guard when I met a Portuguese person and he pronounced "de" like we do in French

Yeah exactly, by rolling the r a bit harsher it does seem like a d.

Portuguese is relatively easy to learn. I went to Brazil early last year and picked it up pretty quickly. I studied it for about 2
weeks then I picked up the rest while I was there.

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it!
Yeah i actually thought it was a hard language. That's what people say around here.. Natives and
foreigners too!

It helps when your host home speaks zero English. You tend to pick up on things.

Being fluent in French already is a godsend. Both in terms of its similarity to other romance languages and opening the mind and creating confidence when approaching speaking new languages.
But everyone seems to say Portuguese is pretty easy. It definitely is compared to French, whose syntax still confuses me constantly.
How long were you in Brazil for nononsense?

It took me about 3-4 weeks to pick up on small things here and there, but it wasn't until about 10 in before I could carry on a conversation. I still have trouble every now and then.
