Consistency is good but the highs matter even more.

The only reason Maiden and Opeth shouldn't be in the same conversation is because the difference in musical styles and era makes it hard to compare the two.

Still, I'd say Maiden had the greater consistency (although I still wouldn't call them consistent cos of the 90's period) but Opeth had the higher high album wise.

Opeth in the same conversation with Paradise Lost or Amorphis would make more sense. Not only because of different music and era but because Iron Maiden are arguably the greatest heavy metal band of all time.

In terms of overall discography, highs, influence, live performances, longevity and size Iron Maiden are so much ahead of a band like Opeth.
