One of the most overrated bands in metal along with LoG and Meshuggah. I never found anything exceptional about this band at all. Just another "gateway" band for people who know fuckall about true metal.

leave meshuggah out of this

I always get a kick out of comments like Nifkin's.
Because whenever I check their ratings to see the trve bands they listen to they're as "gateway" as can fuckin be.

love love love it. but as good as TWOAF?? nope. that album had such amazing flow to it. maybe that is something they were consciously trying to work against, who knows. but i found myself obsessing over fewer songs than i would have expected.

anyone who throws around the term "true metal" is an idiot. this isn't metal? people with attitudes like that bring metal down as a whole. 'gateway bands' are necessary, otherwise people wouldn't listen to metal at all. i don't know about you, but i'd be happier if more people listened to metal. i hate going to shows and its just a bunch of elitist fucks

Giving all Opeth's albums a 5 doesn't mean you're a true metalhead either, if it exists

wtf is 'true metal' the term conjures up cheesy cliché ridden horrors that I find preferable to avoid.

FearThyEvil...I haven't disagreed with anyone that hard in a while. Meshuggah and Gojira are now considered gateway bands? What the fuck? Back when I was first getting into metal, gateway bands were Slipknot and Korn. Meshuggah and Gojira are real metal that both push boundaries and constantly experiment with their sound, not too big on LoG but still dude.
|
| |
I dunno if I'd say meshuggah really experiment with their sound

Sonic, I love SOME Black Sabbath
And MeatSalad, sure they do. Notice the extreme change of sound from Chaosphere to Nothing...or just listen to Catch Thirtythree. Koloss is a bad example, because that's just more of a summary of their career. Still an amazing album, though.
