Mama is the best song after Famous Last Words.

This is one of the albums that got me into rock music when I was in elementary school. Pretty nostalgic.

Dookie was one of the first albums to get me into rock music as a kid.

I think my childhood wins.

The Living End, check. I know that this probably wouldn't be quite as good without nostalgia, but I do still enjoy the fuck out of this.

I listened to this a couple of weeks ago and even though I loved it like 12 year old me loved it, I've never realised

exactly how cheesy some parts were. Still great though

I think it's very strong even without the nostalgia. Take away that factor and it's closer to a 4.

I think I just nostalgically hate this album. When it came out I was really into 80s hardcore and seeing my childhood idols suddenly start dressing like mall kids who just raided Hot Topic and blatantly pandering to their audience just totally turned me off them and I haven't been able to enjoy anything they've done since (with the exception of a few songs off of Uno). To me, when I think about the word "poseur", the first thing that comes to mind is Green Day's American Idiot.

Truthfully it's actually not a bad album. But even a decade later I've tried multiple times to enjoy it, and I just can't. Every song just pisses me off and reminds me of the far, far superior band that made albums like Dookie and Insomniac. Those albums were raw 90s punk at it's finest, whereas American Idiot is basically just paint-by-numbers Hot Topic punk. It's fucking soulless.

I anticipate backlash for this post.

I mean, I can't really argue with your logic, but I definitely disagree.

I got into Green Day in 2005, the year when AI was out. I was listening to everything from the band equally, so I didn't have a bias towards any particular album.

So, coming from someone who approached every album from Dookie through AI without nostalgia bias, I have to say that Dookie and American Idiot are the band's best albums. Insomniac quickly got old, but I still love Nimrod and Warning.

If you think AI is a 2 then yes, you have negative nostalgia towards the album. It isn't anything like their other ones, but by itself it is easily one of alternative rock's best albums of that decade.
