the whole album just has a really straight forward, linear feeling. it feels so plastic in comparison to whbwh that it just makes me sit here wondering what happened to the genuinety that anathema used to have.

Agreed, it sounds too formulaic but is passionate enough to avoid being dragged down too much
|
| |
Snox, the point is that every song on the album has the same layout and whilst that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's annoyingly obvious here
|
| |
And I agree that there are loads of great linear songs (damn, Judgement is mostly linear and that's an absolute masterpiece)

A song can be linear and still be ingenious.
True.
People who can't enjoy a song because the structure is "too linear" are fucking stupid. True again.
You base a song on how it sounds, not how linear/non-linear it may be. Yep, and these guys seemed to take all the coolest elements of their last album and assembly-line that shit into a generic formula that they used over and over again on this album. That immediately kills a lot of the passion, because it feels manufactured. That makes the songs have less impact, and ultimately not be as satisfying of a listen compared to the previous release.

The structures linear and the songs that bear the brunt are the last 2. And when all the songs of the same album have very similar structures it can get tiring by then end, which it did for this album.
No need to get your panties in a bunch Michael, it's called an opinion, and different people can have different opinions. You can discuss the difference of opinion, you don't always have to resort to insults.

I thought this was just as good as We're Here

The last 2 songs had the potential to be really great but I feel their structure lets them down, and their middle sections bore me usually.

It's true. I mean first two months I thought this was the best thing ever, now I can't even think of playing it again.
I will probably have to drop the rating. :/

I know I know Titan, but The Storm and The Beginning are so fvcking great that they compensate. Also the last 2 songs have incredible moments, especially the intros (goodbyyeeee, myyyy frieeeeend), and feel like they're ready to really take off but they don't.
"Album ownz hard till The Storm Before The Calm."
Dude The Storm is in-fucking-credible. LOVE the electronic elements, create a great tense environment and are really refreshing. Vocal performances are 7/5, especially Vinnie's.
