Yeah this really is pretty whiny and boring. And I'm not being biased in any sense. It's like a wanna-
be Johnny Craig.

'Ground Dweller', the debut LP from Australia's Hands Like Houses, is a frustrating showcase of promise by the post-hardcore act. Heavy, accessible & including some intricate dual guitar-work, Trenton Woodley's soaring vocals & lack of screaming distinguish the band, even if the mile-a-minute drumming & electronic passages sound familiar. While consistent, the sextet - & Cameron Mizell's compressed production - does not do enough to differentiate their tunes, ultimately straying damagingly close to "every song sounds the same" territory. For a debut, however, this must be considered a successful appetizer. Recommended Tracks: Antarctica, Lion Skin, Don't Look Now... & A Clown and His Pipe.

^Yeah I completely agree Davey. And choruses with nearly indeciperable lyrics drive me bananas.

I like Starving To Death... but never revisit anything else from this. Production is some of the worst i've ever heard

I could never really get past the first song on this.

Why do Rise records have to be such cheapasses when it comes to production? dammit.

the production here isnt that bad

The production (retarded mastering, overusage of electronics and effects, etc) are basically this album's largest downfalls.
This actually has really great songwriting, but they make some otherwise terrible choices.
And fucking guitarists/drummer need to get more creative.

But otherwise...fun as hell
If you ask me it's still a cut above typical Rise-material, but these guys need to improve
|

Praying that their next album isn't produced by Cameron Mizell.
So much potential in this band.

"If you ask me it's still a cut above typical Rise-material, but these guys need to improve"
I'd generally agree. This is just their debut record though, so they have their whole careers ahead of them to show us what other tricks they have up their sleeve.
