there haven't been many of my favourite bands releasing albums this year
Architects is the only one actually, and it was a regression from their last one too

Quite a handful of my more favorable bands have released an album. As for regression/slight disappointment, I'm speaking both objectively and subjectively. Subjectively it has been a rather great year than overall. The releases that come closest to what I'd call a disappointment would probably be Radiohead, Opeth, and Dream Theater though.
With this one I'll have to wait and see. Not quite enough spins yet, but on the better side of average definitely.

This album is great, but not as good as Crack The Skye. Black Tongue is one of my favorite Mastodon songs, though.

Yeah 2011 seems to be the year of regression for many bands I listen to as well.. It's kinda weird.
Holy fuck I hope that's not gonna affect the new Rosetta too

boring, over produced, absolutely nothing special.

Enjoyed it more after another listen. First two tracks are still pretty dull though.

I'm really digging this - it's probably their best.. I'd take this over Blood Mountain any fucking day

I like this album very very much, till now my fav album released this year. It's cool how you can hear some Alice in Chains influences over the whole album or Smashing Pumpkins in "Thickening". Songs are full of cool moments and bereft of any wankery. This > other Mastodon albums.
