Scenes from a Memory - now *that's* a great album.

I can't stand the vocals on this one for some reason... On the Backs of Angels might be Labrie's worst
performance to date.
I had the same problem with a few songs off of Black Clouds & Silver Linings although he did have his
moments on there. This album just flat out lacks any interesting choruses or harmonies, while his
voice doesn't sound very good to begin with. Not a good combination. I want the Images & Words Labrie
back...

Bridges In the Sky has pretty fucking great chorus.

Honestly, I don't get the love for the Bridges chorus, it's so corny, even by DT standards.

"Actually
the quality of the audio from a CD is much higher than what our ears are capable of hearing."
Generally untrue. If you understood simple Nyquist theorem, and, among other things quantisation distortion due to sample rates, then I'm sure you'd retract that statement. Further, 16bit audio caters for around 65,000 individual points of level, which oddly the human ear can detect, i.e. this is the reason why many song fades don't appear to fade out correctly, leading to the abrupt end you tend to hear. This is exaggerated by long fade outs.
Given this CDs will always sound different to vinyl because they aren't strictly analogous, they're of course digital. There is too much debate regarding audio quality, but generally, it's not surprising that the general consensus seems to sway towards vinyl. The only thing vinyl doesn't have going for it is convenience and portability, so long as you have a good stylus and player.

I'd like to speak out against the misconception that this album is good.

Just so you Mike Mangini's parts aren't very special because they we're all written before he joined the band. So he didn't make his own stuff. It was all pre-written.

Easily the most boring and uninteresting DT album to date. It's inoffensive, but even albums which were overall worse had standout tracks that made up for the suck. This plays it safe and doesn't really offer anything new. Opening track is pretty good but after that everything blends together, unless you are one of those who somehow enjoys their attempts at ballads.
