I saw her perform the material live in 2009, I thought it gave a pretty good sense of how it could have been generated in studio. Mostly guitar and pedals lol

yeah thats essentially how she creates. other than vocals nothing is really overdubbed

the way i see it, her instrumentals are just a backdrop for her vocals. of course some instrumentals are stand out (dragging the streets, duh) but for the most part the vocals are what make it so interesting and moving.

I find her treatment of vocals so impressive, yes--it's hard to imagine a better paced album, emotionally, for someone who constantly has to decide whether to mesh with the haze of the instrumentals (Moon is Sharp) or to assert her--deeply comforting IMO--presence as a Voice straight-up (Alien Observer, Come Softly)

All of her recent discography is impressive in that regard too, she's a cool cat

Anyone who likes this should check out, on the off chance they haven't, the Water People single and the Mirrorring album
