"step down from a step down... but still a four, only btbam"

I gave Colors a 5 and TGM a 4.5. Being a step down does not make the album suddenly a 2. All of
BTBAM's music kicks ass, but this definitely isn't as good as their previous work.

One of the biggest problems with a website like this one, is that some people comment and judge music from genres that they don't even like. Some people on here might have a broad taste in music, but in only liking a few metal bands, really don't have any perspective with which to critique this band. This would be similar to me trying to rate or critique a popular new rap album that came out. There are certain elements that make rap music rap, and a new rap album can excel at these elements and push rap boundaries, however, I am still not going to like it. Since I don't like rap, I have no business rating it.

Been seeing this argument a lot recently, and it's a load of bullshit. Genres aren't neatly cut off areas that you either like or dislike, and they're not sacred cows you have to tiptoe around. You don't like rap? Hip-hop is a massively expansive genre, that touches on all sorts of other genres, from metal to electronica, blues to classical - and you don't think you can rate or talk about any of it? Should we all keep quiet about crunk because we don't like it? You can talk about a genre you generally dislike without being a douche - all it takes is an open mind.

And this

To say that this album is bad is just wrong. If you don’t like it, fine, likes are opinions. But as far as judging and rating albums go, there is nothing bad about this album.

Makes you sound like a retard. If this is the first metal album some kid hears and he thinks it's shit, guess what: he isn't wrong. His opinion would probably change, but his original opinion is still valid at that particular time. The fact that you actually think there's a right and wrong way to think about and rate music is so painfully stupid it makes me feel sick. JUDGING AND RATING ALBUMS IS OPINION, YOU CLUB-FISTED OAF.

Phlebas is right but I wanna add that although an opinion can't be right or wrong, one generally shouldn't go about spreading opinions that are steeped in ignorance. For instance, if all I listen to is hip-hop and nothing else, I'm not going to review a BtBaM album.

This BTBAM record achieves, and completely raises the bar, for this style of extreme progressive metal. To say that it is a 2, thus implying that it is bad, is completely misguided and just wrong.

BTBAM is creating a style of metal that references so many different genres of music, and especially metal, that if you don't like most metal, or are at least open to exploring new metal genres, you really have no business critiquing this band. As far as metal goes, this band is composing music on a level that no one else is in metal today. It excels at every aspect of metal composition. To say that this album is bad is just wrong. If you don’t like it, fine, likes are opinions. But as far as judging and rating albums go, there is nothing bad about this album.
