I never said it was their best oden and versus are a little better. But it's their signature album yeah. As in its the album their most known for. The majority of amon fans rate that album very highly its prob their second most acclaimed record after oden if not tied with it. Not to say someone has to like it but someone 1.5'ing it is nonsense.

"With Oden is their signature album"
Yeah that's what I think too. And I expect that the Versus 3.9 is sliiiiiightly higher than the Twilight 3.9 as well, based on comments.
EDIT Ah ok, I would argue a signature album is the one most people would identify as their best, but apparently that's not what you meant.

Oden or Vs. The World is their signature imo, maybe even Fate of Norns.
Personally, I think other than Jomsviking everything after Twilight is more or less of the same quality, only with diminishing returns. Every album still has a jam or two that's worthwhile, but I don't expect them to knock my socks off. Jomsviking was a nice surprise tho

That's my fave stretch, when they were at their absolute best.
Versus - Norns - Oden
With the trio that came before it being my second fave AA stretch.

Yeah they went downhill fairly hard. And they seem to be getting more popular the last few years off the newer albums which is surprising cause they really lack the quality of the first 7-8 or so albums. Maybe it's just from the heavy touring schedule tho the uptick in popularity who knows. But the new albums ain't it I no that much

Amon Amarth are getting more popular because their "gimmick" or being THE viking metal band accidentally laid the groundwork to be an easily marketed social media band. The whole Oar anthem thing is tailormade for tik tok's and whatnot, and it's easy for anyone to instantly understand their niche and appeal. You're not just getting a concert with Amon Amarth, you're getting a "viking" experience the same way that you see those terrible, over-produced marketing videos for restaurants that are made for social media.

my boss is taking her kid to her first metal show and this band is headlining and I told her to just leave before they come on or they’ll both become permanently brain damaged

make sure to tell her to stay away from slipknot gigs too, hyperion, because then they'll both become truly lost causes

They released "Put Your Back Into It (OAR)" in 2022 as a standalone single. The Oaring thing at shows has happened for a long time, but that's what I mean by them stumbling into being a sorta social media band. I don't say that as a cynical dig, props to the band for sticking with their schtick for so long. They put themselves into a position where it's easy to market themselves as not just a concert, but an experience that is quick and easy to understand. That's my explanation for their increased popularity lately despite not really putting out anything exceptional since Jomsviking
