and they sound plenty alike. take away the vocals and you've got two proggy emo albums.

Are you kidding me? They are completely different in almost every possible way. Just because they fit into the same genre does not mean they're of the same ilk.

I'd say they're both sort of on the outskirts of screamo... I mean, if that's what you're trying to say, they do have that in common... but as far as sounding similar? not at all.

I'm kind of with Eric on this one, but even still, just because you're perceiving them both as progressive that doesn't mean that they necessarily sound alike. I would never compare the two, there are too many differences in production, lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation.

Idk if I'd say it transcends its genre, but it does push boundaries.

Gospel is closer to post-hardcore than traditional "screamo" IMO

I'm inclined to agree, even if only because I think 'screamo' is a retarded genre name.

"Exactly. Especially since the public at large tags everything from Panic! At the Disco to Suicide Silence as screamo. It's kind of like 'prog' in that sense, that a massive amount of people have misconstrued the genre tag, and made it into a scarlet letter."

Yeah, but these days the same can be said for almost any genre, ESPECIALLY 'pop-punk'. Screamo just seems to have a negative connotation about it, I've noticed.

nah I love genres they help keep shit organized

I mean on one hand I get how people see different bands belonging to different genres but most of the time there are fundamental values that can be attributed to band A saying that it's in genre A and I like that
