I'll see what I can do dude, I'm a busy man.
I haven't even rated it yet, I'll jam it again later so I can give it the score.

Purple finally reached a 4.5, that's great
They don't receive the attention they deserve in here compared to Sabbath and LZ

They don't receive the attention they deserve in here compared to a lot of bands unfortunately. But the same goes for a number of hard rock bands. Glad to see this one reached 4.5 though.

Made in Japan is a 4.6 so this is still only their second highest rated album.

manosg and me had a discussion regarding the scarce attention they got some time back.
|

Yup, we spoke along these lines in page 14.

Still better than Zeppelin

Still better than Zeppelin [2], although Houses of the Holy and LZIV are fairly close.

Overall, I prefer Purple over Zeppelin by a mile tbh.

DP
Sabbath
LZ
imo
But I like 'em all.

Album Rating: 4.5
I like them all too. DP has In Rock and Machine Head, LZ their 4th and 5th, and Sabbath Heaven and Hell and of course Paranoid.

I tend to give bands an edge if I'm a fan of the guitar work, and since DP had Blackmore, well, there ya go.
Iommi was an amazing riff master though, and Page did some interesting stuff as well.

All three of them are great guitarists in their own right, but I agree with you that Blackmore was the maestro of the three.

His leads were too leadtastic.

Album Rating: 4.5
Indeed. On so many of his leads it is pretty obvious how swarms of future shredders like Roth, Rhodes, Malmsteen, Romeo, Friedman, among other guitar giants got their influence.

I believe he kinda regretted that to some degree, particularly the common practice of tapping and stuff. I read something like that on an interview. Maybe manosg knows something about that.

I know he sure tapped a hell of a lot in Rainbow as well, but why should a skilled instrumentalist regret a technique he brought many to use?
|
| |
Dunno man, but again, let's see if manosg comments on that.

Yeah I've read somewhere that he wasn't the biggest fan of the technique no because he hated it but mainly because he thought that guitarists were overusing it. Especially, after Eddie Van Halen brought it to the forefront. Blackmore used hammer-on as part of his playing whereas other guitarists used tapping to hide their weaknesses, namely songwriting.
