Less genre tags please. Can’t bear it.

Yeah I can't see Doof ever liking this lol.

Also what's innovative here is that Neige (again, allegedly) hadn't actually heard of shoegaze when he made this, essentially reinnovating the genre through the lens of black metal.

"everything here sounds like stuff I've heard a million times before"
I mean, I can't think of a single other album with a sound/atmosphere like this

Sorry zak, I agree the beauty of this does transcend genre but this does sit at an interesting intersection of different genres.

More I've been listening to too much black metal recently and this sounds like someone put a tapedeck with bm guitars playing but at a low volume in a toilet and then set up a band to play shoegaze with 'first take' soundcheck-y vocals
I'll probably like this in a bit, it's got some DIY charm

Fourth song sounds more like The Smashing Pumpkins
This is a strange album
The vocals are the constant

Get to the real artistic beauty here Doof lad.
The child on the cover looks like it’d fail the school nit nurse inspection circa 1985.

Yeah, some Siamese dream in here

Agreed on Siamese Dream, one song here, I forget which at the moment (I view this more as a whole album experience, I sometimes forget what individual songs sound like), always reminds me of "Today".

That’ll be Ciel Errant

Ciel Errant, though from memory I thought the chord progression at the beginning was closer to Mayonaise than Today?

Ah "Ciel Errant" would make sense, that's the one Doof was referring to

This album is ok but I really want to go listen to Blut Aus Nord again now lol
My ears keep adding the black metal song that could be here according to the main riffs - I keep expecting this to suddenly rip it up
where's muh wallofnoise?

Take it for what it is, not what it isn't

Yeah wrong album, wrong time
|
| |
much prefer when they commit to the black metal like on ecailles and kodama
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
well I didn't like Kodama but I'll try the other one
this was pleasant
other than some of the vocals

Album Rating: 5.0
Ecailles is their peak of songwriting, Kodama is great in its own right, but neither has the massive emotional impact of this one for me, this album is nostalgia incarnate.

Album Rating: 4.5
Kodama is probably their second worst - not a good starting point
