Hmm wouldn't surprise me, but they've got another year or so before even hinting at releasing anything so there's hope still!

i adore davey havok, his perfect voice, the enchanting lyrics, and the pure sound of the music. end transmission and okay, i feel better now are really the high focal points for me because i think it shows how deep they can be. AFI fan for life.

We've still got awhile before we should even expect news about a new AFI, still want to know when that Blaqk Audio is coming.

I'm pretty sure someone said this when Black Sails came out... a lot more people said it when Sing the Sorrow came out... again, when Decemberunderground came out... see where I'm going with this?

Yep, my point exactly.
It's fine not to like the direction a band is taking, of course, but it seems silly to say the band is dead, as if their existence can only be validated by a particular sound they pursued during a portion of their career.
AFI's progression to this sound seems pretty natural to me, considering the trajectory of the last decade.

Agreed on all counts, andcas.
I practically worshiped Davey Havok throughout middle/high school, haha.
I was a bit disillusioned when I realized his StS and CL looks were just takes on Rozz Williams and Moz, though...

I've always enjoyed this album. There's some really awesome lyrics throughout and I actually like the direction they took with the music. I do hope they return to some darkness with their next release, however.

I have faith in them to make 4/5, 4.5/5 albums still.
Also, Blaqk Audio is amazing.

I honestly got a very "AFI's take on the smiths" vibe with this album and davey's new look is so morrissey.
Just like how their swing towards goth coincided with Davey growing his hair out like the former frontman of Christian Death? Haha. They do look reasonably similar, though.
Not that I think he's ripping them off, but it's interesting that his personal style reflects the influence on the album at the time.

Nah, I think they've always put enough of their own distinctive spin on it - plus, Davey's unmistakable vocals - that it's never come across as dishonest or trying to copy a band that they openly acknowledge as having been huge influences.
I'm surprised the Moz worship didn't come sooner, actually, ha.

Maybe it's just taste but I don't understand how you guys can like half of the songs on this album and this review just doesn't sell me it either because all the songs he talks about are ones that I actually like but doesn't say much about the bad stuff on here.
