yes, given that sweating bullets is basically damage, inc. for solipsistic theatre kids i am surprised at this development

Sweating Bullets is nothing like Damage Inc? It's honest to god some of Dave's best lyrical work actually, the metaphors and symbolism for anxiety and depression - some said it had something to do with schizophrenia too - its definitely some of his best writing and beats the crap out of his current lyrical motifs.

That song almost made me give up on Countdown to Extinction forever. The absolute worst display of how hammy Dave can get, and the bouncy swinging rhythm of the verses annoys the everloving shit out of me

Then again, I'm a pretty outspoken detractor of Countdown in general, lol

Orion obviously carries this album ahrd, but its all about the riff on Disposable Heroes, the "rev" riff, the fast then slow, the rev pre verse and outro with twin leads, easily best riff on this album.

Countdown def isn't my favorite of theirs, nor is it even their best 90s release (Rust in Peace almost feels spiritually in the 80s so I am not even counting that as 90s), but there's some good jams there, and Sweating Bullets is probably my favorite off that one.

Bullets and Damage are both meme bangers with uncharacteristically self-aware lyricism from writers who usually leave that territory well alone, which in both cases is probably a good thing. It is good that this is a good thing because bald symbolism alone does not good lyricism make

I think my problem with Countdown comes from the weird middle ground it occupies. When I'm listening to Megadeth, I want either a full-on thrash assault like RiP or a more mellowed-out rock album like Risk (which I think is quite underrated). Countdown is in a dead zone where it doesn't satisfiy either of those tastes for me, so I've always been a bit cold towards it
