their best since Scenes. Their only passable album this decade for me. Wearing the shirt for their Black Clouds tour as I type.

A Rite of Passage is still pretty lackluster but the two bookend tracks are incredible. The middle section of Nightmare is euphoric...easily among the best moments of Dream Theater's illustrious career.

agreed. Fave on here is Tuscany, and yes, that includes the incredibly condescending intro. ;)

Yeah Tuscany is definitely the best song here, even if the lyrics are hilarious.

It's just a little strange that a 20-minute epic which has one of the most emotional climaxes and ultimate finales i've ever heard (...at least for Dream Theater) is about this guy that Petrucci met basically kidnapping him, introducing him to his brother, drinking fine wines, and being generally frightening to Petrucci...which shouldn't have happened anyway because Petrucci is fucking Petrucci.

Gonna echo the love for Tuscany, that song is a perfect statement to those who think DT can't make songs without wank anymore.
I actually really like A Rite of Passage, I know it's the single, but it's just a great, fun song, I've probably listened to it the most of anything on the album even though it's not the best.

Album rules, only Dream Theater album I've fully listened to as well.

You should change that

A Rite of Passage just seems really uninspired to me.
And yeah man you should, personally i'd say this is fifth to SFAM, Images, Awake, and 6DOIT.

Bloc, I would recommend Train of Thought next for you, it's their heaviest.
And I guess it's cause I'm a mainstream guy, but I just really dig their single-type tracks like Constant Motion, As I Am, Panic Attack, etc... almost as much as their epic songs.

I used to really like Panic Attack but it grew off of me after 50+ listens. I don't tend to enjoy their recent singles nearly as much
as their other songs (from Train of Thought on).
Constant Motion is really good live though.

I always liked 'Constant Motion', never got the hate for it
|

Their entire discog is definitely on my listening list. Sadly, that could take a while.

Constant Motion is a good song, nothing more, nothing less. It's hard to take DT seriously when they get all m3t4l and shit though.
|
| |
Sadly, that could take a while.
Entire discogs only about 2.5 gb i'd say

13 hours for all the studio albums, if I remember correctly. Yeah it takes a while to get into DT.

Not what I meant dummy.
I meant that they have very long songs. But I wouldn't be doing it all in a row, that's for sure.

It's about 15 hours of material though...just a guesstimate.

Oh right, you have a very short attention span, my bad
