ive seen the dvd.
they are brilliant live.
but i still didn't like the songs, for the most part.
i don't really find the heavier parts of it to be 'crushing', especially compared to their absolute heaviest moments like the feel of fear and despair in cleanse, the heavier parts of purify, the climax in strength of fates, the end of under the surface, the climax of end of harvest, the riffs in the doorway, the end of burn, the riffs in given to the rising and the 'chorus' in to the wind....i mean im rambling now and the list goes on but yea compared to their other work i think this is really lame. just me though. im still a huge fan.

well i wasn't really thinking about emotive in terms of the lyrics, more in the music, melodies, climaxes, conclusions, things like that. i find the album very ineffective and bland. i think i always will, but who knows maybe ill enjoy it more some day

when I said "crushing" I wasn't talking about the heavy moments, and naming their more heavy and more metal songs when ASTNS wasn't aiming to be in the same aspects is unfair.
"but who knows maybe ill enjoy it more some day"
you probably might, and learn to appreciate it more.
and seeing them live in person and through youtube are different, you can't reach the same levels from both outlets.

be that as it may, i still wouldn't use the word 'crushing' to describe this record, at least for me. again i have one neurosis album 5d and two 4.5'd i obviously love the band

I guess my patience is kinda high for slow-burn stuff these days, and this is about as slow-burn and... muted I guess?.. as Neurosis have gotten so far besides Storm. But this doesn't have the sheer atmosphere of Storm to keep one occupied, so I can see where you're coming from. I guess it's something to do with the whole y'know, power of silence thing. All minimalist n shit y'digg

i like minimalist stuff, slower stuff, longer songs, etc
again, i just find this as a whole bland and unmemorable

cuz most neurosis fans get incredibly offended if you have anything below a 3.5 for any 1 neurosis album, as far as ive seen on this site

you just spend more time insulting the albums you dont like instead of praising the albums you do.
