dude youre an idiot thats a very narrow view of a concept album.

one of my all time favorite albums, domestica, is a concept album because it examines the causes/ripples of ending a relationship from all different angles.

the first widely acclaimed (not first ever) concept album was sgt pepper. what was the story there? none.

benzum i really dont care i know im not a moron but thanks for being intelligent enough to realize that ;p

sgt. pepper is not a concept album.

domestica is a concept album because it follows a pattern. It has a flow to the concept. and it all connects.

it does not necessarily need a full-on, bonafide story to accompany it, but it does need a pattern. musically as well as lyrically. Rise against's albums are just a series of songs about politics. the songs all follow a similar theme, but it does not have a concept.

After listening multiple time I will say that although AI had better moments and a few songs that surpass this, in the end when listening to both I enjoy this one more.

This one is too long which brings it down some but regardless the feeling when listening to this is more enjoyable than hen listening to AI.There is a small chance that that is cause by AI massive overplay back in the day, but idk. Solid 3

the band adopt alter egos playing a show at a mythical club.

all the songs run together and flow, with similar themes, youth, breaking free, expression, drug use, love

pretty much the 60s man

ahhh... I never picked up on that before.

that explains a lot to me actually. I'll probably give it another spin. Strangely, that album didn't appeal to me as much as abbey road did. maybe now it will.

The problem with this album is not that it is or isnt a concept album it's that they've tried to make another concept album and fell into the big pitfall of sacrificing quality songs for the 'concept'. Far too many songs, in particular from track 10 to the end, are simply indistinguishable from each other, the same key, tempo, rhythm, unmemorable lyrics and a chorus that is often a single phrase repeated ad nauseum.
If only they only ditched the quasi-sociopolitcal comentary and pretentions, lightened up, write fun songs again, this is a band that could make amazing power pop albums no question.

The album isn't godawful, it's just not very good, and as a Green Day record it's near the bottom. It's certainly catchy, there ARE some great songs (Viva La Gloria!, Static Age, Peacemaker, Murder City) but the album kinda blends too much, the production is too polished (especially the vocals - Rob Cavallo and ONLY Rob Cavallo should touch Green Day's albums), the songs are 50% of the time completely forgettable, the concept is stupid, and the lyrics speak for themselves. There is nothing wrong with being political, but Green Day aren't Propagandhi. Fuck, they're not even Rise Against or Anti-Flag. Or even NOFX. If it had been trimmed down about 6-7 songs and dropped the stupid concept it could have been better than AI by a comfortable margin. But it's not, it is what it is and what it is is Green Day's worst record (or least good).
