Yea thats why i like 80s Metallica so much more..and the musics better so yea

Meh, this album has some great hooks, and I'd rate all the singles from it amongst their best songs. What really set this album apart though was its slick production, probably the only Metallica album where the bass is as loud as every other instrument.

Kill em All has louder bass..cliffs best album and probably my favorite bass album..along with Rust In Peace

Never found the bass to be overly prominent in Kill 'Em All, Anaesthesia (Pulling Teeth) non-withstanding, pretty much everything on that album was loud, so amateurishly produced...those were the days. Cliff was an excellent bassist though, I was surprised to find out that the opening descending chromatic sequence of For Whom The Bell Tolls was Cliff on his bass. KEA sounds great on a sound system with a good low end. Although Cliff's better work is in RTL and MOP seeing as he helped write the majority of the clean/classical parts.

I found Cliff to be pretty sloppy on RTL hearing the bass only tracks

I think Cliff was awesome, but the only reason his name is untarnished is because of his death. More than likely "Load" and "Reload" would have happened even with him there.
|
| |
ya but he was the only one who was awesome at his instrument

@Willie
Mmm I'm not so sure, he was the guy who brought the classical influences to the table. We'll never know.
You are right about him being immortalised because of his death. He is overrated, I mean he's great, but some people take it too far.This Message Edited On 02.11.09

First four tracks and nothing else matters are the only songs on this that i listen to anymore, the rest bores me somewhat.

@phantomlimb: it's obvious Cliff brought the classical elements but he was also into classic rock, and after 5 metal albums he may have been just as ready for a change... Of course we'll never know.

Exactly.
And it's the other way round for me with this album; I prefer the end of the album and don't listen to the first half much.
