ok i believe this album is definetly a 4.5, at first i thought the exact same way a lot of people on here feel: this sounds like a copy of mewithoutYou, this album drags on, i liked the Vancouver EP a lot better, it just doesnt do it for me.

HOWEVER:

This album, like many great albums out there WILL INDEED grow on you if given the chance. I started just putting it on repeat so i'd be more familiar with the material before seeing them live. After seeing this band play twice in a row, i can saftely say this is an amazing band, one of my favs right now in fact. Also, this cd kicks MAJOR ass. I am a huge mewithoutYou fan, infact i think that's probably the only band that tops this one right now, but after coming adjusted i feel a huge distinction between the two. My favorite tracks include "Said the King to the River" (tonight we RIDE is just so epic to me), "Burn your Flame", "Last Blues"... actually i honestly like all the tracks. Please give it time before calling it "emo" or "lame" or "boring" you will regret these words as i have. Also see the band live, they kick ass.

and what's wrong with "lame" or "boring"?

this album didn't grow on or off me my thought process was basically "wow this first song is epic" "wow these next few songs are mad groovy" "singer is either trying to hard or notafag" "I don't really care"

"emo" is included in these connotations because i read someone's comment saying "this is like a more emo version of mewithoutYou" which in itself seemed like a negative connotation, and when are words like "emo" ever used in a good sense now a days? i have no problem with emo music I was simply saying don't label this as "emo" just because its lyrics are more about relationships than mwY.

I dont understand how someone could view this album as "rediculous", i'm not saying your view's are wrong i would just like some justification behind your thoughts thats all, like what about it do you find "rediculous"? to me, this is a highly thought out cd, also very creative and technical without over doing it just for the sake of trying to sound talented. i believe music like Insane Clown Posse can be labeled as rediculous, La Dispute not so much.

"singer is either trying to hard or notafag"- what does notafag mean in this sentence?

the thing i really like about this cd that keeps it from being boring to me is each song has those "epic" moments in it that make each one worth listening to, for example the part in "Bury your Flame" thats like "im moving, IM MOVING ON!" and the echoing guitar riffs in "Last Blues" is really fun to listen to. also the part in "Guilty Bodies" thats like "what is life without a purpose, what is purpose without love" is just fantastic.

Only thing I have learned from this is that you don't understand what the fuck emo music is.

"and when are words like "emo" ever used in a good sense now a days?"

sorry for posting that like 4 times, my internet is shit.

"emo is used on a good connotation when you actually know what it means you FUCKING IDIOT"

don't know if that's directed towards me, but if it was i wasn't saying that its not used in a good connotation, i was simply saying that when someone calls a band "emo" or a person "emo" they normally don't mean it in a good way, especially on the internet with immature name callers like yourself.

"Only thing I have learned from this is that you don't understand what the fuck emo music is."

Well the only thing i've learned from trying to support one of my favorite bands and give my opinion is that people on this website don't read the responses all the way or correctly.

When did this become about the definition of "emo"? and for your information i'm quite sure i know what emo is, it stands for emotive hardcore, bands such as The Promise Ring and Sunny Day Real Estate were influential in this genre in the 90's.

Let me try to explain this to you one more time. Somebody posted a comment saying, "this is a more emo version of mewithoutYou...", i read this and thought it sounded like they were using the word "emo" in a bad way, mostly because of the use of ellipses at the end of the sentence. As in, "wow, this is just an emo band trying to be like mwY", which La Dispute fits much more into the category of Post Hardcore than Emo really anyway. Also a lot of ignorant people use the word "emo" like they use the word "gay", like "dude why are you so sad OMG you emo fuck go cut yourself." compared with "this band is fucking gay!" not saying it in the actual definition of the word in both examples, but rather as an insult, thats how i read the sentence "this is more of an emo version of mewithoutYou...".

He's saying how people use the word "emo" incorrectly on this site and he's got his panties in a bunch because of it.

oh well i give up on you people, your just too closed minded and looking to pick a fight. The point is don't write this album as being "boring" until you've really given it a chance. if you have and you don't like it, move along, maybe this style isn't for you, or maybe you just don't like the band. whatever thats fine, enjoy your music just try to have reasons behind your thoughts. hopefully someone will come along, read my posts and understand what i was talking about, if not thats cool too, its the internet people are douches thats just how it is. peace.
