I don't really know what you mean but considering that this seems like it's supposed to be kind of a nasty ablum, I guess it should be ug

it just sounds like it was recorded in a tin can
lifter is one of their best songs though

“ya idk why a buncha deftones fans like their shoegazy experimental stuff or their modern galloping sing songy shit more than the punch in the face aggression of this joint”
bro there’s a reason why this is almost unanimously considered their worst album except for dummies that think gore sucks solely because of the shitty production.
There’s some heaters here for surenbut Chino should not be rapping, and tbh the only real positive over the rest of their work is if you’re in it for raw aggression but even then, Around the Fur is literally just a better version of this. It literally made this record obsolete imo
And when I say “raw aggression” I mean that so literally. Pretty much every record has “heavier” tracks than most everything on this

yea that’s such a tired excuse, around the fur does everything this album does much better, and is my favorite tones record cus of that, raw aggression doesn’t make an album good

“punch in the face aggression of this joint”
There’s at least 30 songs from the rest of their discog that fit this description better

Rickets and Lotion are more aggressive than anything here

Lotion is like the whole rap rock thing done well.
Headup on the other hand… sorry that song sucks

I love Soulfly and 12-yo me loved Headup but yeah, I pretty much skip that one every time for the last decade. Such a cheesy song lol

Glad I’m not the only one, honestly I think most of this record clears that track. And I like Around the Fur as a whole WAY more than this.

the one thing this album has that ATF doesn't (as much) is Chino comes off like a total creep on this. It's kind of a unique vibe that they moved away from pretty quickly but I like how weird and distant this is. ATF moves into more "straight-forward" territory

ehhh I’m kinda glad he moved away from that. He hit his sweet spot with White Pony through Koi. Now he just sings about colors and shapes and shit (and I’m totally fine with that… we simp for chino in this household)

I think it was the right decision too, but it did kind of give this one a unique feel. Some of the lines (especially in like Birthmark) just felt very unhinged

just because around the fur is better doesnt mean that ppl should sleep on the aggression found in this album. deftones has been repeated the cheesy shoegazy shit for 20+ years now. and it's always hit or miss. hit on snw and diamond eye and half of kny, miss on everything else

irritation, vocalized angst, paranoia. it isn't just aggression

Yea this is pretty underrated, I'm stunned by the average. Seeing them for the first time next weekend and happy the setlists are mostly their "classics". Agree that the shoegaze shit is quite hit or miss

Some really sick riffs on here. Reminds me of 90s post hc stuff like Quciksand and Helmet
