Top 5 melodeath record along with Embraced by the Absolute, Heartwork, Slaughter of the Soul and The Gallery. Honorable mention to Whoracle and The Chainheart Machine.

There are four other at the gates releases that would take sots's place

top 5 melodic death in no order
arghoslent - hornets of the pogrom
this
hypocrite - into the halls of the blind
intestine baalism - banquet in the darkness
arghoslent - incorrigible bigotry
|
| |
mine would be:
arghoslent - incorrigible bigotry
at the gates - with fear i kiss the burning darkness
hypocrite - into the halls of the blind
edge of sanity - the spectral sorrows
sentenced - north from here
|
| |
purgatory afterglow > spectral sorrows imo, though rest of list is pretty m/
|
| |
While Purgatory Afterglow DOES have the best riff ever recorded on it, the cheesy clean vocal sections on the album bring it down below the heavier and more straightforward Spectral Sorrows for me
|
| |
Didn't know about hypocrite damn

I think it was around 2009 or 2010 that it became cool to hate on Slaughter of the Soul.
Also, never said it was the best At the Gates album. I just don't think of most of their other stuff as "melodeath"
