Many critics have described this as a "Loveless" blueprint. While that is a valid observation, this record is so much more. It hits darker notes, it's more punk and falls more in line with the work of the great noise pop artists of the past. "The Jesus and Mary Chain", "Sonic Youth", "Cocteau Twins", "The Velvet Underground" and Brian Eno are clear influences. Yes, "Loveless" is the better album and the band's true masterpiece, but this is still a great record. 4.5 out of 5
