Guys are you going to take a guy who rated Angels and Airwaves a 5, seriously?

But seriously AtavanHalen, judging by your taste, I'm not surprised you don't like this. Can you guide me to what screamo/emo bands you like? This Message Edited On 10.01.08

Haha, it always comes back to Angels and Airwaves. Seriously, if people can rate this a 5, if the Magic Numbers can get a 5...if MATCHBOX 20 can get a 5...then I don't see why I'm not allowed to say how much I enjoy AVA.

I really like Funeral Diner, Portraits of Past, Cap'n Jazz, just got into Joshua Fit For Battle and Neil Perry. I'm going to check out American Football next, as well as Indian Summer.

yeah idk how you can criticize this for having "poor production" and being too chaotic and then try to claim that you're familiar with emo at all.

Come back to me when you listen to some Orchid and Daitro because there's a big difference between 'midwest emo' which is something you'd find in Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap'n Jazz, and American Football, compared to CTTS, Orchid, etc. blah blah point is you are barely skimming the surface and you don't like 'real emo/screamo' bands because you haven't really heard that genre yet until now

My main question was whether you enjoy the harsh vocals of other screamo bands, as they are almost universally less accessible and good than this.

Some of it's a bit much, but I would say yes. For the most part, I'm a singing guy- I prefer songs with singing, I can't help that. However, I can still pick a good scream when I hear one.

As it stands my rating is 1.5.

I'm not allowed to have this rating, so it's unrated.

The fact that you like Portraits of Past yet would give this a 1.5 is ridiculous. Your main points for disliking this album are far more readily applicable to that band.

That's where I disagree. I find Portraits of Past genuinely exciting, and the vocals are far superior to what you'd find on As The Roots Undo. The vocalist in Portraits sounds absolutely furious and comandeers the music, whereas CTTS obviously have the same amount of emotion but mostly just sound ridiculous.

Also, there's a difference between having a lo-fi sound and just sounding bad. Portraits is the former, Circle is the latter.

Well, I turn the tables on you- how can you not like Portraits of Past and yet like this?

I didn't say they WERE lo-fi as in the genre. I meant the sound of the music itself.

I like Portraits of Past. I just find them to not be anything special in the scheme of emo music, despite whatever relevance people try to give them.

See, I don't know anything about their "relevance" or whatever, I just happen to really like the songs.

I will say nearly any emo band has bad production. It doesn't affect my listening at all

I grew up in the late nineties, so I missed out the garage kind of sound in a way. I don't have a major issue with it, I guess; it's just I prefer it when the sound is a little clearer.

Well I mean it isn't so much the relevance I just think that a ton of bands do Portrait of Past's sound way better.

Who do you think in particular, man? Becuase they're the band I've probably enjoyed the most, apart from Cap'n Jazz, from the reccomendations I've recieved. This Message Edited On 10.02.08

Thanks for the reccomendation, John.

I just found out I still have As The Roots Undo on my harddrive, so I think I'll come to listen to it again at some point.

I was honestly just glad to get a decent discussion out of this that didn't end in me being called a fag for my opinion.
