Objective best is just an artificial loophole to try getting around the truth that you don’t actually think it’s their best ❤️

Heh aight, it's the short way of saying it doesn't have the atmosphere of EVOL but has better pacing than Daydream and probs their most succinct noiz jams full stop

Lol, word. Counterpoint - the best Sonic Youth noise jams generally ain’t the most succinct ones (‘cept Silver fucking Rocket)

Fair content, but Becuz and White Cross are also big shortbois. I think the amazing thing about this record is how it plays out at such a lean runtime while going completely off-piste for half of every other song. Feels fat-free but still packs waywardness for dayz
That was an awesome relisten and the backend is way better than I remembered. Next up: Inspiration is DEAD

"but in old age i have to say i wish kim gordon were the only vocalist. thats the musical hot take"
It's only a hot take 'cause you commented it in the thread of the best Thurston album

some of you might be deeper into SY than i ever got, is there anything in their discog that approaches jazz fusion or prog rock? even if its just jazzy in the way that black flag was 85/86

Thousand Leaves and some bits of Washing Machine is probs what you're after hmm

sweet ive always thought washing machine was awesome but i never ventured past that although i have that NYC record at a 1.5, no memory of hearing but im assuming i youtubed half the record and prolly turned it off

i remember a really long ass song on washing machine and being like damn this alone eclipses goo and dirty
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
but hell despite naysayers i do think dirty is a badass power pop type thing, still edgier than pearl jam and shit ya know

Yeah, NYC's handily the worst thing they ever did. If that's what turned you off the subsequent records, its def worth going back cause they got some 21st century gems
And feel you, it's not like the Youth ever sold out, no matter whose label they were playing on

how could they sell out even? i mean i remember reading interviews and thinking it was insanely cool that thurston was openly into black metal and shit
