This, State Faults and the Static Dress album are my top 3 of the decade, would have to go through the years to see if there's anything close to them.

I actually really like Magic, it just has some horrid production choices. Fun song tho, and I can imagine how pissed the cod bros were after unlocking it

Magic and something like Good Morning are basically indistinguishable to me from the perspective of just being a mash of styles, sounds, noises, vocalfx. Absolutely not my jam.

Beautiful Morning has probably the catchiest chorus on the record. Understandable perspective though, I appreciate the creativity here but it definitely has the potential to sound like "random bullshit go" type of record.

My top 5 of the decade is none, too many sweet jams to pick winners. I guess this and Framing Hanley would cut it.

Tbh I think G has the best chorus on the album, those female vocals really add a lot

G and Easier are my favourite choruses.

Don't think either would translate well live, though.

G hasn't sounded great from shitty youtube clips I've seen, and I don't think they've played Easier.

I'm actually worried about the next time I see them, and all of that worry is on Matt. (Assuming they ever tour here again)

G sounded great when I first saw them supporting this record, and tbh I don’t think Easier would be too hard to pull off. They already have the vocoder sounding great when they perform Cosmic. Really the only thing that would be tough is the vocal production on the verses that makes it sound a bit muffled… which I honestly don’t really like. So I think it would maybe sound even better live.

And yes you’re right, they haven’t played Easier or Beautiful Morning, or the t/t technically but when the lights come up a recording of it plays.

Honestly I’m kinda surprised they haven’t played Beautiful Morning, I think that track has so much potential to win over fans that don’t like this album, considering that, even with the interlude, I think it would fit snuggly on any number of their older records. TBH I think it could seriously fit in just fine on Nightmare or even the self titled.

Plus it’s so Alice In Chains coded and they’re my fuckin goats, so that would be extra cool to see live. Instrumentally it literally sounds like something Jerry would write and Matt even seems to be emulating a Layne Staley style cadence. Really the only “out there” part is the interlude, how serene it sounds before descending into hell with that absolutely demented solo is just too cool.

Unfortunately I don’t see them playing either of them going forward. TBH we’ll be very lucky to even get any of the GOD songs either. I’m just glad it seems like they’re keeping Game Over, Mattel, We Love You, and Cosmic in the rotation, and depending on if they drop another album, I could easily see them scrapping Game Over since it really only works as a set opener imo. It would feel so weird to have it on the setlist as anything OTHER than opening the show with it. I think they’ll probably play Nobody every time going forward. They always seem to play the lead single (or rather most popular song) off of every one of their albums.

Unholy Confessions, Bat Country, Afterlife, Nightmare, Hail to the King, and The Stage get played at pretty much every show. I think I’ve only seen them *not* play The Stage and Unholy Confessions once, and that was night two of their SOAD coheadliners, so the set was shortened. And out of all of those Afterlife is the only non lead single but it’s by far the most popular song on the self titled.

Sounds great fam!

And Dude I know, these brothers at my work both got Covid so I’ve been covering for both of them for the last week, i get Wednesday and the weekend off tho

Maybe I’ll finish the list on Wednesday, email it to myself, and boot up my PC on Saturday or Sunday

Hell, if we’re slow tomorrow maybe I’ll just start it then add it piece by piece. I’ve got most of it worked out but man, there’s like 20ish songs below the top 10 that are so hard to rank. My absolute favorites were easy, and the bottom of the barrel shit was even easier, but it’s these middle ones that are giving me trouble

Much like any list, it's the guts of it that you don't feel overly passionate for (or against) that is the hardest to nail down. I can already feel myself getting angry at it haha

Nailed it, I’m really half assing some of the songs on City of Evil and STST… CoE has a few songs that are just stylistically so similar. Like I could’ve written the exact same descriptions for Beast and the Harlot, Burn it Down, and Trashed and Scattered, and Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is worse considering there’s a few songs in there that I don’t even know by name, I just know what they’re all about when I hear them.

That said, there’s a few that are straight fucking fire and almost as good as Waking the Fallen… namely Turn the Other Way, We Come Out At Night, Epic of Time Wasted, and Shattered By Broken Dreams.

I’ll get it done eventually man I promise lol, I’ve put in way too much work to not get around to it.

Hail to the King is by far the most half assed tho, so similar to the record itself I suppose lol

Heretic and Coming Home are the two I feel strongest about, most of the rest, well, I really had to come up with some bullshit to say about songs that I don’t even necessarily hate, I just don’t fucking care about them. Like what the hell am I even supposed to write about something like fucking Requiem or This Means War (other than the obvious Sad But True angle)

That said, I do have some pretty strong words for a few of those songs, I’ll keep it a surprise tho considering I’ve already spoiled the two I actually love. And of course they’re two songs that they never played and almost definitely never will play. I would fucking shit a brick if they busted out Coming Home randomly at a show, and I’ll say it’s interesting how much resentment I have for This Means War for being a direct ripoff of Sad But True, but I love Heretic despite it lifting pieces of Symphony of Destruction pretty liberally, maybe because it’s not QUITE as blatant… and Jesus h Christ Syn plays his fucking ass off on that one, for sure one of his best solos, same with Coming Home tbh

I think the thing that’s always annoyed me the most about HttK is how fucking good the production is, and how I wish all of their albums sounded that beefy. The lower ends in particular sound phenomenal. I really wish Nightmare and The Stage had similar production. I think this record sounds fine as is. I can’t really picture that style working for songs like Nobody, Cosmic, or any of the GOD songs.

All I can do to some songs on HTTK is laugh and bop my head.

Shepherd is Enter Sandman

HttK could be seen as Thunderstruck.

This Means War is Sad But True

Doing Time is a Use Your Illusions B-Side

Heretic is Symphony for sure

Coming Home is about half a dozen Iron Maiden intros combined

There's probably other examples I've missed.

Yet another song that I’m really bummed that we probably will never see live : /

I’m not sure if I’ve said it but by my count they have 109 songs, that’s not counting remixes or covers but is counting bonus tracks (St. James), B sides (Lost it All, 4 AM), all of Diamonds in the Rough and non album singles like Not Ready to Die and Magic

tbh I might leave off Waking the Fallen and Jade Helm, ones barely even a song and the other is literally various menu music riffs, which actually could’ve been cool if they maybe tried to have them seamlessly transition and maybe develop into something larger on the Black Reign 10” instead of just have a second or two of silence in between each, which sucks because there’s some great riffs and some pretty stellar work behind the kit… I’m not sure if that was Arin or Brooks but they did a great job.

Oh and I’m absolutely not including the soundtrack to that dumb mobile game they did. It’s a fun little thing they did, but I don’t know how heavily the band was actually involved with it and I don’t really have much to say on any of them aside from “huh, neat, I guess.”

I remember reading that Matt wanted to do a full blown AAA project and talked to some guys from Treyarch that he was friendly with, they basically told him that to make the game he described to them that he would have to drain his bank account and give up his music career to devote himself to it… that mobile game ending up being what he went with instead.

I honestly would’ve loved to have seen what Matt had actually envisioned… but I’m glad he didn’t do anything crazy. Him *maybe* making a cool triple a game would’ve meant no Stage and no LIBAD.

I never played it either but I’m pretty sure it got some middling reviews and is no longer on the App Store, so I guess I have the answer to my own questions with that one
