I hope the new riffs Mark has been writing make it into a song and don't just disappear into the vault like that one JamUp BIAS demo riff.

Just started getting into these guys. This is probably one of their weaker album for me so far. Also the vocalist really sounds like Gus from Volumes at times.

In case anyone was maybe wondering... I think Church Burner is the easiest of their 6-string songs to learn in full on guitar.

The black metal part on "Reptile" is so perfect. I wish they'd lean into that sound just a little more on the new stuff. We'll see if they go heavier or softer. I'm guessing they'll go a little softer than this album next.

Why do you think that?

I have no reason to back up my speculation, I just doubt the band can go heavier than Hail Stan. I'd argue it's their heaviest, most aggressive album. I feel like if they want to continue to grow into larger audiences and make more money, they'll have to throttle down the heaviness and proggy songwriting (See: Reptile). I'm just guessing it'll be a little more streamlined and varied sonically.
Then again, rumor has it they're writing a sequel to Juggernaut soooooo everything I said could be incredibly wrong.

honestly looking at the lead single Blood Eagle, I was expecting this album to be even heavier than what it was, I have said this before but I think they followed the P3 blueprint a little too closely with this album, which is surprising since they left Sumerian because they were tied down creatively or whatever the case may be. P1 is definitely heavier than this overall, Juggernaut Omega might be too. Reptile gives me big Shadow of Intent vibes, especially in that unbelievably huge breakdown just before the solo, I think should use their deathcore influences more, it would probably cause a hole in the spacetime continuum but fuck it, YOLO, big chonker riff GIVE.

on the other hand, maybe they think they've done all that they came to achieve with their heavy sound, thanks to songs like Blood Eagle, CHVRCH BVRNER etc, or going back, Graveless, Hell Below, and so on, and maybe they will go softer as result. I'm not going to lie, that would be a hard pill to swallow for me, cause I'm such a fan of their heavier material, but I wouldn't be mad if soft songs were all at the quality as say Garden in the Bones or It's Only Smiles.
I had thoughts lol

I think this albums heaviness is front loaded. Much softer second half.

I think that goes without saying really, wayy too frontloaded. By comparison, an album such as Juggernaut Omega feels SO much more balanced than this album, heavy beginning, softening a bit with Priestess, and then the back end is just... well... a fucking Juggernaut of colossal proportions, it trounces this album if I'm honest (hEH heH bias Heh HeH)

Yeah, I guess you’re right. The first three songs on Hail Stan are so heavy it’s easy to forget how much softer the second half is.

I don't think this is "too" front loaded in heaviness tbh. I actually like when an album has a progression and ends in a different place than it started. Like Pitfalls by Leprous that starts out soft and structured and descends into madness. Or Destrier by Agent Fresco that grows increasingly ambient towards the end

Idk I think this is pretty balanced.
3 heavy songs (blood eagle, church burner, ghost)
3 poppy songs that get heavy for 5 seconds (garden, smiles, crush)
3 tweeners (reptile, sentiment glow, satellites)
I like this approach better than P3 where nearly every song tries to straddle both

I love Pitfalls by Leprous, but the dynamics are still off when compared to something akin to Periphery IMO. Their heaviest moments aren't even close to heavy when compared to Periphery, while the softer moments are more comparable.
That's why I think this is frontloaded.
