it's one of the greatest normie albums ever
which means it's one of the best albums ever
snobbery can only go so far, some albums are immune
check Thriller

Maybe I've underestimated the amount of pick-me's who make up the gen z female population, but I've met a lot of young women who enjoy the more experimental side of Radiohead. I simply cannot imagine many modern young woman being scared off specifically because a guy likes In Rainbows

I was joking, although in regards of my wife she would not want to listen to that much Radiohead - 'Like Spinning Plates' would get about...17 seconds in before grievances would be aired? At best?

on a spectrum of normie classics that runs from
S (Thriller, London Calling, DSotM)
A (A Night at the Opera, The Fat of the Land, Purple Rain)
B (Led Zep IV, Black Album, Jagged Little Pill)
C (1989, Hot Fuss, The Suburbs)
D (What's the Story Morning Glory, Slippery When Wet, Never Mind the Bollocks (jk))
...the Bends just about scrapes a C on a good day
be the good norm not the bends norm

and yeah lol all the chirpse discourse i have ever had re. Radiohead has had zilch to do with their beerbelly-with-anxiety era and a lot to do with Videotape and IR generally

Tbf I do know a guy IRL who considers Kid A the greatest album ever and he's been in his "beerbelly-with-anxiety" era since 19. But he also seems like he would try to bone to Kid A, which is the ick catalyst itself moreso than liking Radiohead imo

My wife loves to point out "Hey it's that song from Clueless!" every time either 'My Iron Lung' or 'Fake Plastic Trees' comes on.

Listening to Amnesiac for the umpteenth time rn and while I get that Pulk/Pull is clearly the worst song on here, it still adds to atmosphere pretty well
Like it’s so Radiohead. Like Fitter Happier, but lyrically worse and musically better

didn't realise there had ever been a contender for worst song here that isn't Hunting Bears
would also nominate the vastly inferior alt version of Morning Bell ahead of Pulk/Pull

Pulk is an insta skip for me

Skipping songs is for the weak and in Radiohead’s case a flow ruiner

The Bends hate on this site is hilarious, love that album

I hated them before The Bends was released for putting out such a miserable self-pity anthem as Creep, and was convinced they’re just another overhyped shitty britpop band. It took me a while after a series of their new singles seen on MTV (especially “Just” and “Street Spirit”, both having great visuals) that I gave the album a listen and instantly got hooked. In hindsight The Bends may sound nothing special relative to what came later, but it has great tracks, and more importantly, it really showed their potential at the time, peaking (?) soon with OKC. So yeah, the album triggers a lot of memories in me and therefore:
The Bends hate on this site is hilarious, love that album [2]

yeah, the worst cuts are almost definitely those three ^ (Hunting Bears, Pulk/Pull, Morning Bell_v2)
D on the spectrum of normie classics is godawful, lol
not a fan of it overall... is 1989 Taylor Swift?
Jagged Little Pill is bad also. Fat Of The Land doesn't do it for me. London Calling is alright.
best are Led Zep IV (inferior to 3 mind), ugh I guess DSotM (not their best either) and Purple Rain
I've never heard Thriller in full, would hazard a guess at a hard 3/5. And I used to love Queen as a kid, but it might be a tough sell now

my The Bends hate (actual 'mild indifference' in terms of quality) comes from the perspective of a former scorned lover where familiarity bred contempt. Also my taste has changed considerably, but I find differentiating between the two almost impossible... where RH are concerned at least

Every year that goes past I’m loving the normie classics more and more now - coming out of the edgy phase :D
