Lars's playing on the first four albums isn't bad, and even though there are other drummers better than him, back then and now, that doesn't make Metallica 'hateable' or 'bad' even.

it's not just the drumming that makes the guy hateable though, and it's not just the drumming that makes the band sound bad to me

So James has been a guitarist, a former alcoholic, a table, and now he's a bee rancher. Fuck. What a resume.

There is no way the drumming on Death Magnetic is very good. For the first few albums the drumming was pretty good for its time though. Such a shame his drumming has not improved, but rather got considerably worse.

in contrast to people who try to reinvent the wheel with their drumming, lars is somehow consistently de-inventing it

@Artuma Lars is a lame drummer for sure, but he doesn't necessarily hurt this album or ...And Justice For All with his simplistic yet solid playing.

I can understand that for sure. He's also such a tease at double bass rolls.

yep, it's pretty telling especially in the 'Some Kind of Monster' dvd where he's telling that recording guy where to throw in extra kicks and hits.

like just play it that way if that's how you want it.

@Aiwaz truth be told, he actually can, but it comes in the form of 5 second frames. Like I said, a tease

I could understand he is getting slower with age, although it's not acceptable for such a famous musician. But it's like his sense of groove and timing has gotten worse over time also. It's ridiculous really.
