Daughters and Geese are the most "National" songs here, the true precursors to what's come since.

"we'll run like we're awesome, totally genius" sung my matt berninger is quite possibly the best line in music

Album has the pretty much best lyrics of all time. I do miss this Matt to an extent, the one who could flit perfectly between humorous and uplifting and devastating in the space of just a few lines. The lyrics on the new one are, by his standards, just ok tbh.

Yeah I almost quoted some of my favorite lines in my review for SLB and saying that some fans will miss all the wit and deep insights that their classics have.

I do like the reference to Val Jester in Day I Die. Tbh check back with me in a month and I'll be saying SWB has their best lyrics ever.

Just to be clear I meant that I almost quoted some of their old lyrics, like from this and Boxer.
I also appreciated the reference to Val Jester.
I was just thinking how much I love the song Lit Up. It's such a genuine moment of joy, which occurs very rarely in their music.

City Middle was my least favorite on this for a long time (I remember having a very heated discussion with barcafan21 on this matter back when I only had like 100 comments lol) but it's grown on me a bit now.

Secret Meeting is such a great opener, one of their catchiest songs too.
|

city middle is pretty understated (i guess a lot of their songs are though) but it builds perfectly

Val Jester was the one here that took the longest to grow on me. Then one day those lyrics just get you.
