I finally gave this another listen ... My take aways are that Cosmic is one of their best songs of all time, Mattel and Nobody are great. The rest are still a confusing, annoying mish mash of sounds, annoying vocal effects and genre mashups that I don't care for. This could have been a side project. Total miss for me. Don't care if I never get to hear any but the aforementioned songs again. The piano outro is great, but I don't spin up A7x for piano recitals

Yeah… I just don’t see that man, even from like, the framework you’re working from



For one, Beautiful Morning, Beach Boys interlude included, I think could’ve landed on any number of their other projects, and I think Easier is just a better version of a few tracks on the self titled. Game Over is also fucking excellent when you really get into the narrative aspect, but also just feels like SOAD by way of A7X.



The rest? Fair enough. I’m not keeping score but i think that just leaves We Love You, and the GOD trilogy, which if you don’t like them, fkn fair enough lol



I adore them but they definitely are a little out there, We Love You maybe not as much, considering they have tried all of those sounds before just not all in one track. I mean, I can’t really think of any songs that incorporate jazz metal chord progressions, industrial metal, thrash, spacey ambient, metalcore, and some kind of gothic country all under one roof. I love the song and even I still think some of those transitions feel a little abrupt. But I still think it’s a great track and I respect them taking such a big swing especially on one of their lead singles. Same with Nobody, tho at this point I think it’s one of their best songs ever.

Completely agree on Cosmic tho I called it my favorite song they ever made the week it dropped, even nearly 3 years after the record released I still feel the same way.

Well that's the thing mate, I've spent a lot of time on SPut lately and it's amazing to see what connects for different folks. Some music I thought would be beloved on here got absolutely lashed to death and vice versa. Doesn't change my personal opinions though.



I think it's that simple .. either something connects for a person or it doesn't. I just fall into the later camp for most of this record. When my perception of it is so different to the majority here it does feel a bit confusing for sure. I'm happy for the folks who enjoy it but I really can't, outside of the exceptions. I generally don't even give low scores on here, because I don't listen through albums that are give 2.5 or lower vibes. I will power through on bands I have a history with, of which A7X certainly is one.



What do you think of Magic? Sounds very much influenced by this here sound.

The Foxing self titled is literally my favorite album of all time so that knocks this down a peg… The Static Dress record is up there too, hopefully whatever they do next is as good

Radical by ETID is in the mix somewhere, same with that last Chelsea Wolfe album, and obv State Faults, I think I’d put the newest Tropical Fuck Storm and JPEGMAFIA albums on that level too.



Gun to my head, if I had to narrow it down to 5, it’d be this, Foxing, Static Dress, Tropical Fuck Storm, and Chelsea. That’s just off the dome tho, maybe I’ll just listen to my 5’s from the last six years and game it out today.

I feel like it’s just the usual suspects that hate anything avenged sevenfold has done, and then lifelong fans that dug it, I don’t really see too many fans of the band that outright hated it like I see in real life.
