Additionally, I understand how forward thinking this type of metal was when Meshuggah first debuted it, but I just don't feel **personally** that they've achieved any meaningful growth since then. Do i think all bands need to constantly evolve? Absolutely not. But like JayEnder said, some people (me in this instance) find this one dimensional. It's just not something I feel super compelled to listen to, which is a shame b/c I would love to join in on the hype whenever they release new material. Hence why I keep trying to "get it" every few years.

There's a certain genuineness about Meshuggah too that wasn't discussed yet. They're no showoffs whatsoever, makes them more likable.

jay nothin personal man but they still smell of tight jeans u probably use gloves too!1!
“I understand that many people probably give them that “pass” b/c they think ‘sshug do it better and more power to them for that! I just disagree.”
The “pass” happens cuz on top of the flak metalcore was getting, fans didn’t like how obvious the shuggah style was getting co-opted. it was so obvious to points of rip-offs. periphery was fuckin lames from the jump, textures didn’t go hard enough, and everyone wanted Line 6 amps and drum programming machines.
but meshuggah was never pretentious about their stuff. the “forward-thinking” metal thing was cuz no one did what they did in 2005, an absurd, pieced-up continuous concept metal album, with insane programming.

As an avid fan of Shuggah (esp. the more recent albums) I can't understand just how 'filler' this single is. Especially considering that this is the leading single in their new promo cycle. Say what you will about the fan-boys and naysayers; the praise this single is getting is pretty hyperbolic. Song screams a firm 3.2 album and I really hope the band is cucking us at this stage (i.e. when April 1st comes and the rest of the album hits, it hits hard: April's Fool Motherfuckers style).
that would be lambasted if another band put them out, bad and awkward synths, and the typical modern prog metal tap-y noodle solo
This statement is about 85% true for me. If any other act with less of the fanbase popped up with this single it would be copping some decent criticism and there would be a measure of bigotry to suggest anything else.

I like this point and I don't. I think we need to start finding a logical thought process to distance idealisms and stamps decades down the line - but this point isn't just for Meshuggah, more of an industry/metal genre afterthought that could be made relevant to any act that set an example way back when.

I'm not hearing the awkward synths. Are we listening to the same song?

I mean, it totally is just "a song"...Clockworks was this huge statement, similar to Bleed...and this rollout feels like verse/chorus/bridge/solo/outro haha...with the general chatter being about "diversity" for the record, I am sure your April Fools pitch isn't far off Gnocchi.
Regardless, im vibin

Iirc they even wheren't sure Catch33 would succeed cuz it was a bold direction at the time, so if people didn't liked it that much they would understand

One of them made a statement like "We're old now we're relaxing a bit", between that and the new song I'm expecting the new album to be even more straightforward than Reason

Dont get this filler talk. It's a good track. And its meshuggah. No need to complain that it's not the greatest track they ever made. Or that they made a song in their style. What were ppl expecting ?? You either like meshuggah or dont. But theres nothing to complain about with the new track unless you just dont like the band. P.s supreme new track is more complex than most of reason to my ears.

i understand what you're talking about and agree, but that wasn't exactly what i meant. lots of 00's metalcore & deathcore before dj0ntcore was obviously very chuggy, and for the longest time, was blasted b/c of that and the overuse of breakdowns. while i understand that 'sshug does do some cool stuff in terms of time signatures, a lot of their guitar work (to me) isn't TOO different in that sense, and yet they are very highly praised. that doesn't make sense to me.
i have to agree with how cool the band is though. not pretentious at all despite having changed the metal landscape and i've enjoyed every interview i've ever seen with them.

The filler track is a bit of a stretch imo, sure, it wasn't omega level single ala Bleed/Clockworks but solid without a doubt, it definitely feels "them" and got me pumped for more
