Why do so many Pink Floyd fans think this is overrated? It's a friggin' masterpiece.

Cos if you were alive between 1960-1980 everything ever released on record couldn’t be bettered.

I wouldn't call myself a Floyd fan but this doesn't hold a candle to DSotM or WYWH imo.

i dont think its overrated but its A) not on the level of 3-4 of their other albums B) was the beginning of the end of the group in terms of waters taking over and pushing the rest of the band aside and while roger was always the best conceptualist / lyricist the overall sound / musicianship came predominantly from david and rick
they were at their peak overall working in unison, ego took over and the thing quickly crumbled (ironically one of the main subjects of the album)

Well Waters is a poopyhead.

i think too much of the blame is put on rogers alone, we know for sure rick was becoming a flake and doing a lot of coke at this time, who knows how righteous david was being in actuality, im sure the cause of tension between roger and david wasnt one sided

Well regardless of what the members of the band were going through, I prefer to admire their finished products and disregard whatever troubles the band was going through at the time of each particular album (the 80s Pink Floyd albums would probably have higher averages if more people did this).

And Nick was just like "I just wanna play drums dudes, like fr fr, come on, seriously"

its not that i dont rate the albums as highly because of the turmoil, the turmoil is very much noticeable in the sound
the final cut pretty much sucks tbh, amlop/tdb have some decent songs interspersed with some average sounds 80s rock but the lyrics and theme are never very interesting

I've listened to The Final Cut probably like 2 or 3 times in my entire life. It's just so...ehhhh

yeah the final cut epitomizes what happens when you have a "pink floyd" album without any input musically from the band, not bad really lyrically / song-writing wise but just boring to actually listen to

"Average sounding 80s rock" is exactly how I'd describe like half this album. I love the concept, and the highlights are out of this world, but maaan are there some bland, uninspired tracks

It's a shame, this on the level of Dark Side and WYWH for many people but to me they are incomparable in quality

The highs on this are amazing but the lows are pretty embarrassing. Bit cheesy really.

It just wouldn’t be the same though without the ‘lows’

ye i duno theres def songs on here id never listen to separate from the album but everything seemingly plays a role imo, story telling concept album etc

Tbf I've only listened to this all the way through like twice, and that was a while ago so I should probably give it another go.

After skimming this again songs like In the Flesh, Thin Ice, Mother, Young Lust, Goodbye Cruel World are cheesy and dull and do nothing for me. Makes me want to skip to the second disc, where most of the gems are, but then that undercuts the whole narrative of the concept album...
Maybe me and this album just weren't meant to be
