"lol as though ending the album with a South Park quote is anywhere near the top of this band's dud qualities"
Yeah they do some dumb shit. I think at the end of Icarus Lives on the debut is some 50s style announcer saying something like "Periphery! Love that shit!" or some crap like that

Thank you for purchasing Periphery's self-titled debut long play record: Periphery!
On this album, you will hear heavy metal, a genre of music from the future!
Be dazzled by distortion, be bombarded by bass-beats, and djitterbug to djent!
We're sure you will enjoy such finger-popping tunes as "Light," "Insomnia," and my own personal favorite, "Ragtime Dandies"!
These songs and more are played by a talented troupe of traveling troubadours, featuring the likes of Misha, "The Electric Light Bulb" Mansoor, who was voted the 23rd most influential person in "Brown Magazine," and can be found on the cover of this months "Mocha Imporium."
And look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Trent Reznor! No, it's Jake Bowen and his seven strings of wonder!
Rounding off the trio of stringsmen is Alex Bois, the man with the arms of steel and the arse of a skunk!
On drums is Matt Halpern, the only man who can break three cymbals with one swing of the stick!
Our lead singer will be Spencer Sotelo, who's voice goes up like an angel and down like a wounded ox!
Last but not least is Tom Murphy, providing the rumble from down under, and is the only member of Periphery decent enough for the institution of marriage!
Experience heavy-metal at it's finest.
Periphery! Love That Shit!

Damn I didn't know it was that long lol

It's pretty damn long but for some reason it doesn't bug me as much as the one after Satelitte. Maybe its just because it's such a seemingly serious song. It's like writing someone this beautiful poem and then at the end making fart noises.
But then again I guess someone could even analyze the depth with that. A sort of statement on how the bliss of initially seeing someone as beautiful and perfect eventually turns to marriage where you accept them for their farts and stinking up the bathroom.

Periphery can be deep like that yeah

Yes I dont particularly like the end of Satellites but it does show that the band still dont take themselves too seriously which is an admirable thing, I think

"it does show that the band still dont take themselves too seriously which is an admirable thing, I think"
I've always wondered why Periphery gets a lot of flack for either taking themselves too seriously or not taking themselves seriously enough. What's wrong with taking yourself seriously?

I mean, you're right, but maybe the band just want to joke around a bit every now and again, the juxtaposition of a very serious song like Satellites with the south park bit at the end clashes so outrageously so, it becomes funny, south park does that a lot too tbf as well. But for me I think the "Love that shit" thing on P1 for example only elevates my likeness for the band, because it shows they have a bubbly, layed back, and/or carefree personalities, hence, they aren't boring and/or uninteresting people in real life, I just generally enjoy that little bit about the band.

I can see that. I just think that you can have a band not take themselves too seriously and still put out something with a cohesive tone. But I'm glad you like that little nugget at the end of "Satellites". I guess that's what makes Periphery so endearing to some.

For the record, I will reiterate by saying the south park bit is quite out of place in Satellites, I think it worked better with the "Love that shit" in terms of jokey parts, I would have preferred if Satellites did not have that part in it. I'm fine with Periphery doing jokey parts, but the execution of that one wasnt really there imo. BTBAM executes jokey parts pretty damn well imo, the tavern part in Ants of the Sky is an obvious one, it works with the song, but it's so outrageous and left field that it makes it funny, if Periphery do more jokey parts they should be more integral to the overall composition of the given song imo

"I've always wondered why Periphery gets a lot of flack for either taking themselves too seriously or not taking themselves seriously enough. What's wrong with taking yourself seriously?"
I don't care whether they take themselves seriously. I care about the fact that Spencer's voice is one of the most repulsive sounds I've ever heard from any musical artist. The dull music doesn't help matters either

Spencer’s cleans sounded the best on P1. They were raw and not high pitched like the latter albums

he sounds way better doing high pitched cleans. his mid range is unbearably whiny at times

yeah the vocals on P1 were the biggest complaint i had with it, thought that was the most notable improvement on P2 even if it was worse overall
