Beep boop where’s the guitar? This isn’t real rock.

okay this isn’t top tier, I was mistaken
In fact I don’t know if this holds up all that well. Life in a Glasshouse is one of their best songs tho

Dunno how seriously I take this as an aLbUm, but Pyramid/Knives/Wrong/Dollars/Spinning Plates earn it a pass and are comfortably my go-to from this era, got no time to listen to the entirety of Kid A yet again

Kid A works as an album, but that’s simply because I enjoy every song
This sort of does work remarkably well flow-wise considering (might even have a strong overall vibe) but is way less consistent and sometimes outright dull
The two ‘main singles’ are both still good but not sure I really NEED to hear them now. Which is part of the problem considering they are two of the stronger tracks

I was almost shocked at how bold Glasshouse seems now, probably due to their more recent output being so bland by comparison, lol so The Smile DOES have a purpose after all!
Unfortunately I cannot extend such praise to all of these cuts

The full-length version has a longer intro and is even better imo:

The one (and only??? to my knowledge) live recording of Life in a Glasshouse is marvelous. Can find it on Youtube.

Fundamentally in terms of structure and track selection I'd almost change the lot

average opener, Pyramid Song is good but not my fave RH classic as their classics go, slightly awkward filler track, sort of deep cut but not too amazing, decent song, catchiest song, pointless new version, deep cut, pointless intermission, not quite working experiment - live piano version was better, clunky closer
overall a bit too much dirge aesthetic to be that enjoyable, piecemeal and scrappy (this structure could appeal to some sure and also sort of fits the 'amnesiac' mind state thematic angle)
that's your lot - 3 out of 5

Kid A for comparison
iconic opener, one of their best experimental songs, powerful track, arguably their best slow track, ok ambience, underrated plod rocker, great transition into atmospheric tune, another iconic song and intense, spooky atmosphere deep cut, intriguing closer
seems a well thought progression of ideas and atmospheres
5 out of 5 rating

I'd disagree with your take on spinning plates and glasshouse but yeah, kid a trounces amnesiac by a mile

I agree with Doof on the whole but can’t imagine seeing Pyramid Song as filler!

Pyramid Song is a classic…but for me it’s a lesser classic compared to the ones found on Kid A (Everything, Disappear, Idioteque)
