Honestly, as a whole, I really liked this on first listen. Some of it blew me away, but it's a shame when they progress from some thing great and manage to get back to the shit. Prequel to the Sequel is a great example of this. It begins like a fucking amazing ass song and even progresses fine, but you KNOW what they are going to do next. It's so predictable. At 2:30 in the song, of course they fit in shit. They always do.
Just curious, does any one like what that sounds like at the point in the song? It's pretty much what they do half the time in their music. It totally sucks to me. I just don't understand why they do it to themselves. I could easily play random notes on my guitar, structure it into a riff or scale, play it super fast and put it in the song. Ugh D:
Apparently you guys are calling the flaw I am hearing "wanking," so I'll use that from here. Yes, they can play some good music, but they "wank" way too much for filler (in all of their albums). At least make it sound like music (Converge anyone?), but their problem is that they can't wank for shit, and RosaParks stated this earlier. Their wanking is very annoying in my opinion. I guess some like it because it wows people, but it is easy to see through (especially if you're a musician) and like I've said before, makes the band sound very unprofessional even amongst the other half of the album.

Whether or not they re use ideas from previous albums, the structure and the way they put together those elements kill. My second listen of tracks one and two was unbelievably mind blowing. Less death metal and more power, some thing I like.

Yes, they wank too much, but they outweigh those parts significantly with good song writing in this album. All previous albums overall are mediocre/good because of the long wanking.

Not as often though. They actually do quite well with scales compared to previous albums, and the next step away from wankery would sound too generic in this progressive structure.
