This definitely has the best production of any Opeth album for me, no contest.

GR is a bit too clean for me and I wish the guitars were a bit dirtier but BWP is my favourite in terms of production because of the atmosphere it creates

It just occurred to me that When and DoTF are my favourite Opeth songs.

This album should be higher for that reason alone, but the last half of the album bores me to tears

Karma drags and the Amen Corner is pretty weak IMO. April, When and DoTF are all top 10 songs though

^i dont know if they're weak but i feel like the sheer calibre of When, AE, DoTF just make all others seem a little weaker when played next to each other.I still think the entire albums gr8 though.

Oh yeah definitely. Maybe it's just a let down compared to the best tracks on this but I don't feel that way about Watershed or something

I think watershed is a little more consistent with the songs if you ask me. There isn't really a let down song on there. except maybe porcelain heart.

but the calibre of this far exceeds watershed. even though slightly less consistent.

Perhaps, but I think The Lotus Eater and Coil are right up there with their best.

I quite like Porcelain Heart actually! I prefer Mellotron Heart but it isn't that bad. If anything, i think the let down song on that album is Burden

Watershed is pretty much aimless if you ask me. Stylistically the album is all over the place in an identity crisis of sorts

i think that's its strength, if anything. Opeth really experimented with their sound there and whilst it's pretty in-cohesive as a whole, every song is solid enough. For someone who's more song orientated, it's perfect!

Great songs yes but the album just know what it whats to be. I guess if you look at it by songs rather than an album you can find more positives

I don't find that a problem at all, i never listen to the whole thing at once anyway
