It used to be definitive though, hence the wildly disparaging "these rappers make black people look dumb" comments from certain old school MC's

Yea, I've seen a lot of people hating on it. I might've heard bits of songs here and there... doesn't resonate.

Good luck finding that in the upcoming decade

Steve Lehman's Selebeyone album is scratching that itch for me, nice balance of the apollonian and dionysian. Experimental Jazz & badass Hip Hop.

The t/t grew on me but sadly I can't say the same for the others. The only songs I can say I really love / have replay value are 7empest, Pneuma, t/t, and Invincible. The rest are good but they just don't really do it for me.

Listening to their discog recently seems to have made things worse too I think. it really doesn't hold a candle to Aenima/Lateralus, not even 10k days or Undertow imo. Might give this one a rest for a bit and come back to it later.

I think Pneuma is my fav, I like the simple (but forever relevant) lyrics about existing between the body and the transcendent.

I was already shown the Mystery of all Mysteries by secret deities I can't speak the names of. Tool records, particularly this one, are far below my level of spiritual enlightenment.

Well, that's why I've rated it a 3.5. 3.5 isn't a bad rating lol. 7empest and Pneuma are both superb, and the only tracks I find comparable to Tool's best albums. Invincible and FI are a step below but they're both great songs. The others, well, I'm just not feeling them. I actually like all Tool albums (except Opiate) better than this overall.

Although it occurs to me you're referring to how I worded my comment "These are the only tracks I like". But I mean, there's only 6 real songs on here and given the song lengths, those 2 tracks are a good portion of the album.

No man, many people believe this, including yours truly. Plus the average is the shared lowest (with Undertow).
