After all these years- which isn't that long considering I only really started digging into Opeth about 4 years back- this is nipping at the heels of Morningrise for me. I decided to revisit my lowest Opeth ratings (aside from the holy trinity of shit) and this has been in fairly constant rotation.

Before I got to this site I was under the impression that Blackwater Park was regarded as >>>>>> everything else and basically untouchable. Obviously its fucking great, but never once have I felt like this was better than Ghost Reveries.

Lol I rated Ghost Reveries lower than this. I'll try to check it out more.

I'm telling you, this has grown on me a lot. At least a 4.

I get you. I think I fell for the hype on a lot of Opeths earlier albums, tbh and mostly focused my attention on them. It's hard to dig into a huge discog of an establish band especially after you finish one or two releases that click immediately.

Morningrise will always be a 5 for me and Orchid rules, but I feel like I've done a disservice to a few of their albums. I've really been liking Backwater Park (I know, it's loved here) and My Arms, Your Hearse more than I did originally.

It was difficult listening to this after 'Still Life', honestly... but it didn't take long to grow on me.

I'm still waiting for my Candlelight Years set, stupid Amazon gave it an estimated month for delivery & then emailed me to say there'd been an unexpected delay which (if it arrives) will make it around 2 months. I was planning on starting from the beginning & forgetting I'd listened to 4 Opeth albums already (impossible, I know).

The riff after that verse on Bleak is up there with Opeth's best.

yeah its insane that some of their heaviest songs like Deliverance and Master's Apprentice are in standard. also all their songs are composed on acoustic, which is just about the most metal thing in the fucking world

That delayed lead part after the "help me cure you" part is a top 3 Opeth moment for me.
