"And one of the reasons nobody sounded like Sabbath in planet caravan, was mainly due to Iommi's jazzy soloing. I can't remember many rock musicians who incorporated/preferred jazz guitar in their psychedelic/spacey stuff."

Jerry Garcia did, funny how those 2 bands are are my faves by a long shot

Dark Star certainly reminds me of those songs. Sabbath's style to it was more introspective, while GD's was a little bit more upbeat tho

Wonder how much Iommi's jazz influence on this is directly from Django Reinhardt, has he ever talked about it?

bruh just because both lost two of their fretting hand fingers in accidents and went on to revolutionise the music world doesnt necessarily mean theres a connection

I mean, facts, but knowing Tony was directly inspired to keep playing by Django after his accident had me wondering how far that influence went musically

Hot take: Iron Man and Paranoid are the weakest tracks on this.
