I don’t mind it. It would’ve been the weakest track here and does feel a little slapdash but it’s certainly not the worst song they ever made

Not when This Means War, Unbound and Burn It Down exist but its replay value is glued to the floor.

This Means War is fine, it would honestly be a pretty killer song if it weren’t for Sad But True, yknow, existing. It’s funny, my uncle knew I loved the band so he bought us a pair of tickets for what ended up being my first concert, their Hail to the King tour, he thought they were just covering it until the chorus hit lol, and even then he still asked me after the show if it was supposed to be some weird kind of cover.
And ehhhh I like Burn it Down too… one of the weaker CoE cuts but solid enough imo.
Unbound can get fucking bent though, I’m working on a full ranking of A7X songs and I can’t decide if I want that or Dear God at the bottom. I’m leaning toward Dear God being worse, Unbound is at least an enjoyable trainwreck, Dear God makes me want to barf. If they ever wasted 7 minutes of a live set I’m at playing that piece of shit I would literally fucking kill myself. I would go on stage and light myself on fire.

I cannot stress enough how much I hate that song. It’s fucking unbelievable that it’s ALMOST IN THEIR TOP 5 on Spotify. God bless them for knowing that thing is the lamest pile of dogshit they ever recorded. You’d think a top 10 most streamed song would get some live play… I unironically like Warmness on the Soul more. Both songs are crimes against humanity, but one of them can be excused as them literally being children when it was written. Dear God was made by grown ass men, and that’s embarrassing.

Fuckin A. I’ve got the bottom 50 and top 30 all pretty well settled… it’s just that middle 30ish I’m having trouble with. I’m trying to write a cute little remark for each track too so I decided to take my sweet time with it. I’m only including tracks officially released by the band. So obv every song on every album, but I’m gonna include the Diamonds in the Rough (excluding covers, so no Flash of the Blade, no Paranoid, no Walk) tracks and the Black Reign tracks, and now also Magic. By my count that’s 109 songs.

Oh and Dose, so with that none of The Stage Deluxe Edition covers. Just every song the band themselves wrote.

That's quite a few songs to cover.
The problem with This Means War is, well, Sad But True. Burn It Down on the other hand has some of the worst vocal layering I've heard. So in theory it's okay, but that aspect sinks it.

Tbh it’s a problem across the entire record imo but ya it’s particularly egregious on th track

Yeah, that's another issue. I tried to sing Sidewinder a few times but the vocal pacing in the chorus is too cursed. I need to check the live recordings for reference.

I can't remember if I listened to this or not but sounds like it's worth listening to.

Yeah I agree but for different reasons I’m guessing lol
And I’m honestly not sure if they’ve ever even played Sidewinder live but I’d love it if they did. And ya, if they did Syn and Zacky would def have to pick up some slack, which they already do so I don’t think it’d be a huge issue

Setlist FM says they’ve never played Sidewinder live.
It’s Gates and his dad playing the solo on the album, though I assume Zack could play it

Yeah I’m not surprised that one of the best songs on that record hasn’t ever been played live lol
I would sacrifice my first born for them to bust that and Strength of the World out at a show. I’d love to see MIA live but at least I can find live recordings of that one. I don’t think they’ve ever played those other two. Wicked End would be killer too, I’d assume they’ve at least played that before.

Decided to look it up myself:

Don’t really care too much about any of the STST songs, I dig the album but they’re so far beyond that record atp that I’m not really interested. Still would be very cool if they randomly played Turn the Other Way or something. It’s fucking insane that they’ve never played And All Things Will End live, they don’t have to do the ridiculous outro solo so it’s only like 5 mins and one of their best tracks. Would work so well as a set closer too.
As for Sidewinder and Betrayed, it would be hype as fuck to see either and I’m not even really a huge fan of Betrayed. Song is still massively overlooked. Unbound and Lost can get fucked, hopefully neither see the light of day again. Also am so goddamn sick of A Little Piece of Heaven. When I realized we were getting that instead of Cosmic at Chicago night 2, I literally leaned over to my gf and told her I’d go get some drinks for us. Took my sweet time, I literally just don’t even enjoy the song even a little anymore. Surprised they’ve played Brompton Cocktail… that’s my favorite on the self titled aside from Afterlife. I’m assuming it probably hasn’t been played since that tour, also with Jimmy having passed I imagine they’re not really looking to revisit that one.
The ones missing from Nightmare really bum me out. Victim could easily get swapped for So Far Away at shows and I think every hardcore fan would be happy, and the more casual fans would probably enjoy it too. Natural Born Killer just fucking rips and would be so rad live. Matt probably can’t do Tonight the World Dies anymore, I think that window is firmly shut. Still kinda crazy they never played it once.

Coming Home and Heretic are literally the best songs on HttK and really the only songs on it that I think actually stack up to their best songs on other records, so it’s a huge disappointment that they’ve never played them. Could not give less of a fuck about Crimson Day though. That song is boring as shit
Creating God is prob the worst song on The Stage so whatever there, also idk how they’d even pull Simulation together live. Good song but it is what it is. Fermi Paradox remains one of their most overlooked songs by everyone including the band themselves.
And that brings us to this: Beautiful Morning is very good and I honestly think there is a chance they’ll play it some day. It’s got a prominent Syn vocal part and I think a live crowd would go crazy for that and then that buck ass wild solo. I don’t like Easier as much but as long as they’re playing Cosmic and We Love You I’d say there’s a chance they might play that sometime too. Both are also probably the easiest songs on the album to play for literally everyone in the band. I’m mid as fuck at guitar but I can nail Easier, Beautiful Morning is a cakewalk too, aside from the solo. Tbh I’d love it so much if they just played this whole thing and then did like an hour of the hits. That’s what I’ve wanted more than anything from these guys since this album came out.

I have a lot of thoughts on the B sides… I think it’s safe to say they’ll never get played but it’s a shame because I think very highly of Demons, Dancing Dead, and Lost It All. The rest are a very mixed bag. So I guess I’d rather they never play any of them over them opening the Pandora’s box and making me sit through Girl I Know or Set Me Free.

Truly is insane they put together something like this so late in their careers. Every other mainstream metal band on their level, and at this point in their lifespan, either
A. has absolutely nothing left in the tank and is putting out material that’s just a weaker version of what they’ve already done
or
B. just legacy acts that know people only wanna hear the old shit so they don’t even bother recording new shit.
It’s really a fucking shame that so many of their fans never even gave this record a chance. Any time I see people in the fandom shitting on the record I can almost always be totally sure that they either didn’t listen to the whole thing or let other people tell them what to like and what not to. This is literally just the band going “hey, what if we did the self titled again, but actually good?” It even has an amazing country part with the We Love You outro. I’d honestly love if they took another crack at a country ballad but with that darker, almost gothic vibe.
